I'm sorry that I haven't posted much lately, but I wanted to let you all know that there's a new MENA baby in the house. Rayan Driss was delivered by c-section at 12:19 a.m. on Saturday, August 8th. He weighed 9 pounds 3.3 ounces and was 19 inches long. We'd planned for an induction starting at 5:30 a.m. the day before, and I went through labor, but it just wasn't happening. I'd prepared myself for a c-section ahead of time anyway, so it wasn't a big shock. My husband huddled behind the drape with me and put his eyes six inches from mine, and we exchanged sweet words until we heard that first cry I guess surgery can be romantic after all. Rayan is doing great, getting over some slight jaundice, and hardly ever fusses. My husband is head over heels in love, cuddling him and changing diapers and doing housework. My own recovery has been much easier than I'd anticipated. We couldn't settle on one name, so we gave him a middle name as well, which I guess is somewhat unusual for Morocco. We'd both liked the name Rayan since we started trying for a baby a couple of years ago, and I especially like the meaning, one who offers water to faithful travelers at the gate of paradise. I'd also loved the name Driss and later found out it's the name of an angel baby in my husband's family. So we gave him a twofer, and he can choose which one he wants to go by as he gets older.

Last night was the roughest we'd had so far -- we're both still learning the whole nursing business -- so I'm going back to sleep while he's sleeping, but just wanted to step in and say hi and wish everyone well.
