Brits fume over Americans who bash Britain's National Health Service

If you think there's been an outpouring of anger at some town halls over health reform, take a look at the response in Britain to Americans who bash the National Health Service.

If you search on Twitter for "#welovethenhs" you can come up with some heated entries like these:

--I'd rather our imperfect NHS than the neanderthal US system where only $$s buys treatment ... nasty

--I wonder how much Americans have to pay to see a Proctologist, imagine bending over and having to pay for it

--Anyone comparing the NHS to a Nazi death squad is both offensive and offensively ignorant

Even Prime Minister Gordon Brown is getting into the act. Here, according to the AP, is his recent tweet:

"NHS often makes the difference between pain and comfort, despair and hope, life and death. Thanks for always being there."

Britain's opposition Conservative Party is likewise distancing itself from its maverick member of European Parliament, Daniel Hannan, who has criticized the NHS on U.S. news programs.

Conservative leader David Cameron dismissed Hannan as having "eccentric views."

In the paper-and- ink media, The Daily Mirror referred to the United States' high-cost health model by declaring it the "Land of the Fee."

The London newspaper called the "lies and distortions" being circulated in the United States about the National Health Service "truly sickening," the AP reports.

I seen this in the news.. I think what a lot of right wingers in the states don't seem to get is that a national health service is much better in the end than the private health service. It almost seems the hard core right wingers here will take to the streets waiving flaming torches shouting kill the beast without actually knowing what they are trying to kill? Come on you can’t all be cavemen can you? Get a grip on reality!

What I've found while here is that a lot of Americans are more afraid of "big government" than the private sector? The private sector will cut you up and eat you, you don't elect the private sector you elect politicians the private sector report back to their board or to their share holders and no matter what profit is king people can go fuk as far as they are concerned! Making government so small and inefficient just wastes money and shifts power to the private sector instead! Many appear afraid and use the excuse that government too big will control us, well would you rather elect and control a larger more efficient government or pay out the ####### hole to a bunch of scumbags in suites that would take the shirt off your back, the fillings from your teeth to turn a profit? As a whole government in America is so fragmented and watered down we all spend so much more to keep that wasteful system in place instead?

Yes I agree a national health system is a socialist idea, just because it’s a socialist idea does not mean they are going to turn America into the United Soviet States of America. I do believe in an equal dose of capitalism and socialism. Without an equal dose of each we end up in the jungle again everyman for himself. We’re not cavemen and I for one would rather pay the government $200 a month for health care that I know will benefit everyone even those who wouldn’t normally be able to afford it. I’d sooner do that than give it to a big company that takes it and uses it as a profit while telling me it only pays for x y and z everything else am on my own or if am too old I can’t get this, this or this.
