When you don't know the person, you have to take what they say on here at face value. If he was just messing around then i'm sorry for calling him a moron. I thought he was being serious.

Thats the funny part of lulz. You get someone all worked up cause they think you're serious.

I don't know what bible people are reading here but caring about one another is a fundamental aspect of Christianity.

Every man for themselves is not a Christian concept. Heck, looking out for one another is pretty much in every single religion.

A government run entity cannot care about people. It is not human. It cannot have feelings. Even when we try to infuse our systems with "humane" practices, they must, for efficiency's sake and for fairness's sake, follow policy. It must come down to the black and white in the policies and procedures. When people start trying to foist their responsibilities onto the government, they stop feeling the responsibility for their fellow man themselves. This is why Americans are so much more generous when it comes to charities, churches, and reactions to disasters than our neighbors living under more "caring" governments.

Having said that, health care reform should be less about "caring" for others and more about insuring we have a healthier populace so that it will cost us less in the end. In one of those twitters you posted, someone said, "imagine having to bend over and take it." They are stupid idiots if they think they aren't paying for it. ####### do they think taxes are about? Are they really that ignorant about how this all works? The point is, we are going to have to find some sort of balance because through our medicare taxes and our private health insurance, we are paying for it. However, the British model is not the model for us. Neither is the Australian model. Neither is the Canadian model. We are going to have to take what works here and there and adapt them. But as long as we can't admit that we have excellent health care here, as long as we are bashing what works, we are doomed to throw out the baby with the bath water.

What if you end up with excellent IV sedatives without your knowledge? I realize we're moving into philosophy here...

If I wheeled an unconscious person into Best Buy and tried to buy a flat screen TV using his card, do you think they'd let me?

This is one big reform we need in America. If you're not conscious and/or have not designated a healthcare power of attorney, you should get no healthcare.

Knowing the way some Best Buy managers work... I'm sure they'd not have a problem. If you want you can also use a card where your name is Shirley too.

This is what I don't understand though. So, what is an American citizen meant to do if he/she has a life threatening condition or has had a serious car accident? Just take a pain killer coz that's all they can afford? It seems inhumane that a country as rich as the US would allow it to happen.

It would be irresponsible of the American to accept services he/she can not afford. You know, this may be a difficult concept for a Euro to understand but it isn't all about you. With you people it's always me, me, me. What do I get? What can I have?

The attitude is sickening.

If you get in a car crash and can't afford to be cared for, then you get exactly what you deserve.

Not sure if anyone's clued you in... but this is AJ messing with you as he does everyone.

You have a nasty attitude. To allow someone to suffer is wrong, whether they can afford it or not! The whole point of having an NHS service is that EVERYONE pays into it, so it isn't about what I can get for free!

To allow someone to suffer is wrong, whether they can afford it or not!

Let me tell you something, Euro.

When you get cared for, that's actual people spending actual time, providing you with a service that costs them money.

If you can't compensate them fairly, you have no business accepting their care.

If you do anyway, you are nothing more than a petty thief.

Were it up to me, the uninsured would be JAILED if they attempted to seek care.

OMG Why can't I stop laughing?

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Mags:

We pay National Insurance per month - this also covers unemployment, pension and healthcare. It's a percentage premium based on your pay. It isn't even a quarter of the cost of basic health insurance over here per month in the USA.

And I know you know this, HAL !

:P

I enjoyed making that bigger and red for all those parrot readers.

Someone called A.J a MORON???? Mods, are you watching this???

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mags, you sound like a socialist to me.

Well, d'uh!

i do believe the last time america gave a shіt what the uk thought was about 233 years ago.

Really? Well, it's lucky I don't give a sh!t what you say either, eh? :P

Well, I too agree with Booyah on this. I'd take the imperfect NHS over the imperfect American system, any day.

What's worse:

Getting sh!t medical care and then getting a bill after it for thousands - even with insurance.

Or,

Gettin sh!t medical care and not having a bill.

I know where my vote is!

#######, #######, and more #######. But one of the sh1tpiles is free. Yup, that sounds about right .I concur

Well... its not really 'free' although that 'not really free' is a lot le$ anyway.

Monkey Juice, meet AJ.

He's messing with you, consequently, you're looking stupid!

His work here is done...

Teach me to ask questions on here! Take me to a forum that's moron free!

You're just getting vaccinated. Trust me- after this you'll be a vet.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Our prisons are just fine. Concentration camps are so European (Germany is in Europe, y'know), we'll leave that ####### up to you.

Just a little :ot: but you do realise that the Krauts didn't invent the concentration camp, don't you?

No, that distinction belongs to us Brits
