I just had my AOS interview yesterday...

We were literally the last couple of the day. Had a nice IO officer...everything went great!

At then end of the interview, she took my i-94 and gave me a letter stating "I-485 Adjustment of Status Interview Results"...at the bottom of the letter, "Congratulations, your adjustment of status has been approved." I was so relieved it was over.

I asked her if she was going to stamp my passport and she said "no, just wait for the green card in the mail".

Does that happen often?

Don't worry, you will receive your green card in the mail.

In the meantime, hold on to that approval letter. It could even get you the I-551 stamp should you need to travel before you receive your green card (however, it should arrive pretty soon). Plus it will prove your status, should you need to show anyone your passport without the I-94 while waiting for the card.
