I just sent mine out this afternoon. I'm probably not the best person with advice since I overdid it so much that I'll be the laughing stock of whoever opens up my fedex box...but, I did read that you shouldn't use fasteners (I know that they in fact mentioned no Acco fasteners, which I had to google today!). I paperclipped everything together such as the I-130, 325As, divorce papers, marriage license, birth certificate, passport copy (okay, I know I only needed one but I showed the visit stamps), oh, and a cover letter on top listing my exhibits and such, etc...what I put in binders were my exhibits, i.e. letters from 21 years ago (my timeline explains that!), emails from last year on, receipts and copies of boarding passes from four trips, and then a binder with an affidavit, the wedding ring receipts and card and letter from the jewelry store (they even sent us a gift!), and there was something else but I'm spacing out right now. Going back to the paper clips, I also read somewhere on the USCIS website that they didn't want staples (I think they meant stapling the I-130 to the 325 and so on). I did staple stuff together in the binders but not in the packet on top. Does this make sense? I also put the passport photos in sandwich bags (like this site suggests) and attached them by a paper clip to each corresponding 325A-and wrote the names in pencil on the back like the I-130 directions reflect. Sorry I jumped all over the place here, but I'm too tired to cut and paste and put it in order! Oh one more thing...I actually went to a camera store and went crazy-all our pics together (from 21 years ago first then jumping ahead to the present) were put into one of those cool photo books. That was my favorite thing. I even put corny captions on some of the pages. The good thing is it shows our history (going from being 23 and fake blonde hair for me) to being in my mid 40s with my red curly hair (natural)!

So basically, don't follow my advice at all because I went way overboard! I'd think that too if I was reading this...ha! This is what I should have done for NVC. Oh well. For me, it was fun and a sentimental journey doing all this! Reading the letters again from when we first met in 1988 was great!

Good luck!!!

PS Make sure you keep copies of everything! I have a feeling I'll be redoing all of this silliness (sending the same binders, etc...) for the NVC trip...I have an exact replica of everything.

Our timeline:

2/88: We met in Sydney, Australia at a youth hostel! He's Finnish, I'm American-both were in our early 20s at the time and fresh out of college (so couldn't afford to visit each other's countries after that!). We had a three-day romance, then went our separate ways. He actually was going to Sydney a week later, but decided at the last minute to cut his trip short in another country and go early. Wow.

1988-1998: Wrote "snail mail" letters/sent Xmas cards, but lived our separate lives. I married someone else, divorced in 2006...he lived with someone for years and then that ended.

10/08: Because of a series of random life events, I Googled my Finn Man and found him (but no link to his email, and the website his name was on was in Estonian so I couldn't even read it!). It took me two weeks to find a link to someone else, who forwarded my email to him (we were both single at the time thankfully!!!!). The email went to his spam folder but he happened to check it that day and responded back to me immediately! This was after 10 years of no contact and almost 21 years of not seeing each other after we first met.

11/08-5/09: We traveled back and forth to visit each other. Love at first (second?) sight!

7/09: Married in Helsinki, Finland...after meeting randomly 21 1/2 years ago and finding each other again!!!!!

8/13/09: I-130 sent!!!!!!!!!

Rest is on my timeline!

I followed some of the advice posted on Visa Journey. I also followed the guidelines from USCIS. I used plastic bags and labels on the plastic bags for pictures. No Staples in my application, I filed 130, 485, 765 together. I had a cover letter listing the items enclosed in the application, and I put the items in that order and put a paper clip for each set of forms. Hope this helps

I was planning on sending photocopies of everything, or laser prints. So, there will labeled laser prints (color) of the photos. Black and white copies of receipts, email, envelopes, greeting cards, etc etc. I will reconsider this course of action if veterans advise against it.

Hey ML, you're right-send photocopies this round! You sound like me-receipts, emails, greeting cards, etc...I'm not even sure if I mentioned that I sent greeting cards! ha! If they ask for more from me, I have nothing more! I don't know about the laser prints. I haven't seen that mentioned yet.

Are you filing next week???? Hey, great wedding pic in your profile!!!!

Thanks. That is our favorite pic.

The plan is to file next week. I should have my translations tomorrow or Saturday. Then middle to end of next week I should get my wife's passport photo and signed G-325a. This weekend I am putting together all the stuff for the bona fide marriage proof.

Funny thing is, as soon as the translations are here I am ready to file for my step-son... I will wait though and send both at the same time.

Mark :)

MsSheka, that's perfect!

So Mark, are you going the "binder route?" I also added forms from work in which I put my husband as the beneficiary. Even if I went way overboard, I'm just so relieved it's in the mail!!!

Oh, a stepson-how fun! My husband never got married and has no kids. I have a teenage daughter though! She flew to Finland for our wedding-it was so great to have her there!!!! If only my hubby had taken me home after Australia... I'd probably have five Finnish kids by now! But then again, then I wouldn't have my daughter. Hey, everything happens for a reason. Wow, I'm babbling.

As for the binder: we'll see how much is there when I provide a cross section of us meeting to marrying to now...

step-son: nine years old and we get along great. So, yeah, it's all good. I have no kids from my first marriage, so I hope I do okay...

Mark, if you get along well with him, you'll be fine! He's at a good age for all of this. My daughter? Well, she's a teenager. Enough said! haha I can imagine it might be a bit difficult when your stepson moves here though...but then again, maybe not! It'll be an adventure!
