I didn't have to 'spot them'. The war protesters in the UK came from all walks of life and a large portion where elderly - not a very liberal demographic.

The problem with the original premise of this thread is that it doesn't allow for the possibility that people's opinions change over time.

I stated that... Bush's approval ratings were actually quite high in the beginning of the Iraq War, but they eroded significantly from 2004-2008. My point is that the VJ Right loves to blame everything on liberals but unless 70% of America are liberals (which is not the case) that means a whole bunch of non-liberals ended up thinking Bush wasn't a very good President.

You have already discredited yourself by talking about polls. I never mentioned a poll.

You kill me... you & J-A have the misconception that the world is full of (according to you) sane, rational people like you two & a bunch of clueless liberals and I was showing you that there are a whole bunch of people in-between. In fact you can even be a fiscal conservative & liberal on social issues or vice versa.

So what part of this discredits me? Also I think you are mixing up your discussions with MC & Pike with me... I think they are arguing related but separate issues.

The whole poll thing was a result of J-A calling my numbers BS. He of course has no facts of his own, just the usual vitriol & rhetoric, but after some brow-beating I reluctantly (knowing whatever source I used he would call it left wing propaganda) produced some numbers & what do you know he called them left wing BS. You are part of the conservation now because your opinions come from the same premise as J-A's... that war critics must be a whiny, clueless liberal from Cal Berkeley.

All I want from you and/or J-A is the following:

1. An admission that there are points of view, both on VJ and in general, that fall between far right & far left. Seems like a real easy thing to do but lets see.

2. That given #1 some, perhaps most, of the people on VJ who disagree with you are not far left (i.e. liberal). Again seems like a slam dunk but let's see.

3. Given #1 and #2 and all the rhetoric that fly back & forth that said rhetoric is counter-productive to a meaningful discussion.

4. In the absence of rhetoric use facts to support your opinions.

Well given the data in the NY Times/CBS poll I posted (77% of Americans disapproved of Bush's handling of the war & I believe it was 72% that disapproved of him overall) I fell into this category. Moreover Rasmussen categorized people as conservative, moderate or liberal with 2 categories (fiscal & social). I would rate myself as a moderate in both categories. I know the liberal & socialist labels will continue to be thrown around on VJ, no matter how much data is shown that proves it's mostly BS. If just a few people stop doing it that's all I can hope for.
