They're virgins when they get married; it's HER MOTHER who drags the bloody sheet out into the streets (to prove she kept her virginity until her wedding night) and through the entire neighborhood.

Kind of OT, but I've wondered how this practice is in line with humility and privacy regarding sexual things and such.

i'm just wondering how that really proves anything - maybe the bride was on her period?

Charles, I can't speak for everywhere in MENA, but in Egypt marriage customs are different. First the couple signs the marriage contract, then there's a wedding party. Those events could be the same day or they could be months apart. It only takes a little planning to make sure "Aunt Flo" isn't around to muss the sheets, certainly not when the sheet will be on display the next day and certainly not when the groom himself takes interest in its condition.

Humility? Privacy? Honor and reputation are much higher on the list of priorities.

many are now understanding that a girl can still be a virgin and the hymen missing because of how active girls are in sports or even a fall, i can only feel sorry for the girls that were accused of not being a virgin just because of an accident or a fall

also we are taught in Islam that sexual relations are forbidden during the flow so chances of the girl having auntie come to visit on that night are pretty slim.

They should have something similar for the man....show the world that he's a shooter of copious gobs and not a dribbler of a tad bit amount.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

along with an endurance test, and a body odor limit. if he does not pass, castration is in order.

There ya go.

I didn't realize a simple article would cause such a stir

i'm just sayin....

teehee its your fault Lisa :P

"you fondle my trigger then you blame my gun"

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

how was it a simple article? it was about a very complex, volatile topic and it's no wonder that it would inspire a very impassioned discussion. it's not like posting lolcats or something.

i think sometimes articles like this are good to post because it helps us dispel some of the assumed ideas about Islam and what everyone that is like that is Muslim.

of course i dont believe we will ever change everyones mind about us but at least it allows us a way to tell about our selfs and the ####### that is media.

after that it is up to each person to form their own opinion
