Sending Money abroad

Hi everybody. I just registered. My fiancee lives in Russia. She's employed and pretty much financially independant. But occasionally I send her money. But so far, the only way to do this is to wire her the money through Western Union. They charge 10% for the privilege, which I think is rather exorbitant. I could hand deliver her a debit card, but that's a kinda expensive trip just to send her a $100 a month. Any other suggestions?

We tried sending money from our bank (first direct), but they wanted £50 for every transaction. We just found thart western union was the quickest and easiest way to send money.

Sorry for being no help, but we looked at other options and didnt find a better one. Although I am fairly sure that every banks policy differs so it might be worth speaking to them

Or the other option I heard about was setting up paypal accounts. You can transfer between them for free, but it takes a few days for the money then to be transfered onto the bank account.

You can order an additional bank card for her and not activate it. Then you could send it fedex or something. After she has it then activate it. That way if it is lost or stolen in the mail it can't be used.

I asked Wells Fargo about this option and they said that:

1) I couldn't get a second card for her without her ID

and

2) I could open an account and send her MY card but then I do not have a card to access the account

I have to go talk to my other bank but I do not know if they will be any more helpful, I'm thinking WU is the best and easiest way... depending on many things such as where your other half lives!

Have you checked with paypal?I am not sure though if she has to have a credit card where you credit the money or just a bank account.

Mail the debit card. Tell her the PIN over the phone.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Some of the couples in our regional forum use this card. Good idea for some, but I cant use it. No one accepts credit or debit cards in Algeria.
