it is after tax . u have to make about $25000.00 a year to cross the poverty line income. they want to u to pay tax on the net income, just look at the line 22 on ur IRS form, it should cross the 25K marks then u set. good luck. abby n sheryl

Actually it is gross income (before tax) and if you are only sponsoring your fiance and neither of you have any kids then it would only need to be about $18,500.

For a household with 2 people the income requirement is $18,212 a year, which makes it $1517.666667/month.

For a household of 3 people it is $22,887/year or 1907.25/month. All this is gross amounts before the income taxes (Federal and state) and medicare.

Income qualifications are always before tax. Individuals tax situaltions can vary widely. Its based on annual income, not a monthly amount.

The tax you pay on your 1040 is irrelevant.
