Hello Guys,

I am a brand new member to the site, however I have been a constant visitor of this site since I was introduced to it by a friend.

I would like to talk about our interview experience today and see what you all think. A little history...we met in college 2001, been together for a good portion of 8 yrs, married in 2009 and are now in the AOS process. I am in the US on a current F-1/OPT status.

Our interview was for 2:00pm and we arrived at the location at 12 noon. We sat in the car till about 1pm before we went in. We submitted our Request for Initial Interview form and went to sit down. We were taken upstairs to a different waiting area along with many other couples.

On a side note, I will like to list everything we brought in our portfolio

-Notifications

-Personal IDS

-Passport (hubby and myself)

-Drivers License (hubby and myself)

-Birth Certificate (hubby and myself)

-Originals and Copies of all my I-20s

-Proof of Marriage

-Marriage Certificate (original and copy)

-Lease Affidavit (we live with my hubby's parents presently)

-Personal Reference Affidavits from friends/family

-Additional Support

-Joint Active Bank Statements

-Hotel receipt for vacation taken earlier in the year for our mini honeymoon

-Offer Letter (My hubby)

-Beneficiary Information (My hubby)

-Pay Stubs (My hubby)

-Offer Letter (myself)

-Beneficiary Information (myself)

-Pay Stubs (myself)

-Taxes & W2 - 08, 07, 06 (My hubby)

-Taxes & W2 - 08, 07, 06 (myself)

-Vehicle Title (both our names)

-Vehicle Registration (both our names)

-Car Insurance Documents (both our names)

-Cellphone Bill (family plan)

-Cellphone Log (very extensive..we spend a lot of time on the phone together)

-Cards from friends/family

Back to the interview....we were in the waiting room from 1:30pm until 3:30pm before we were called in. Our IO was not overly friendly, more like direct and to the point. She asked for a copy of both our birth certificates, and our passports. Then she asked us a few questions

-How did you meet

-Tell me about the progression of your r'ship

-Asked my hubby about my educational history

-Asked my hubby if he has met my family, which he said yes

-Asked me if I have met his family...I said yes...we live with them

-Then she went over the regular yes/no questions in which I said no to all

She did not ask for anything else that was in the big big binder we had spent so long putting together, even my wonderful album of our lives together for the last 8 years. She only wanted us to give her one picture.

After that she said, I will put in a recommendation for the approval of your application. So I asked if I would be getting stamp in my passport and she said no, that to be honest she won't be putting in our paperwork in the system till later in the week, so I should be getting the green card in the mail in about 2 weeks or so. She said if there was any emergency prior to receiving the GC that we could come in to make an infopass and have them stamp my passport so that I can travel.

We said thank you and she walked us out. It took all of 10 minutes.

Now my question: From reading all the forums in the last few weeks, I noticed that once you have been approved the IO usually takes your I-94 and EAD card, and probably tells you about removing conditions in 2 years. We didn't have any of this. I still have my I-94 and EAD and she did not mention anything about removing conditions.

Should I be worried at all? I will wait to hear from them in hopefully 2 weeks or less...I am relieved that this process is over for now...and look forward to a happy lifetime with my hubby....

Please feel free to comment!

They sometimes take the I-94, but not the work permit and they usually don't stamp the passport any longer. Your interviewer's supervisor reviews her decisions and then sends stuff electronically to Missouri, where they order the GC and prepare a letter letting you know the decision. Sometimes that letter arrives after the green card. The letter will give instructions on removing conditions. I guess interviewers don't bother to say anything about removing conditions unless you ask. There is absolutely nothing to be worried about.

You`re fine. Our IO didn`t take my EAD or I-94 either. Your EAD has an expiration date, so after that you`ll just get rid of it or keep it, if you want. You`ll get your approval letter soon (took us a week) and it explains about removing conditions.

So, congratulations! You can start celebrating!

Thank you Old Dominion...I'm a bit of a worry bug...but hubby seems to have already forgot we went to the interview today....I'll be waiting patiently to receive the GC in a few weeks.

I dont think you have anything to worry about, since the IO told you on the spot that she is recommending your case for approval. I had my interview at the Garden City Office too. Although I was not approved on the spot, due to lack of original documents that I was supposed to drop off in person at the office in days to follow, I did ask the IO if he would require my I-94/EAD/AP. He said, No. When leaving, all he said was even I wont need these once I have a GC, since the AP & EAD will expire and rendered useless. That was all the IO hinted at to my indirect question, if I would be approved. My interview lasted an hour and it seemed more like a conversation rather than an Interview. I was pretty comfortable till the very end. I was disturbed abit when he didn't give us a dicision when we were leaving. But I wouldn't worry if I was you. You are approved and thats all that matters. Might take a bit more for the GC to arrive or less, but atleast you have the peace of mind. Congratulations.
