Hey everyone,

I'm new here and just wanted to say hi. I've been reading up on a lot of topics as we "make the visa journey", and have found this website extremely helpful. I'm not very familiar with forums, so I haven't posted anything until now.

My fiance lives just outside of Kansas City, Missouri. We're hoping I'll get there before October, but we'll see. I live just outside of Victoria, BC, Canada. In case you're wondering, since we're always asked, we met through my ex-husband (which is always super-awkward to explain). We've known each other "online" for about 9 years, and have been an item for about a year and a half. He manages a courier company, and I manage a group home.

My family is NOT thrilled about me moving away, and have been using a lot of scare tactics to try and change my mind. so its been difficult due to the lack of support. But we're pretty patient people, and we know this is right for us. I was last there in the beginning of February, and he was last here in May.

Thanks again to everyone for being so vocal about sharing your successes and challenges. Its been very helpful both logistically and psychologically :) And it encourages lurkers like me to share too!

Hi Maribear...welcome to VJ..I am from Langley, B.C. and have been in the U.S. since 2005. My parents were not thrilled that I was moving either...I understood where they were coming from. My son went to Germany to play professional hockey and even though I knew he would be back it devastated me. We all have to do what we have to do. I am sure your family will come around and be happy for you!! Good luck and welcome!

"Our Wedding Prayer"

Lord, help us to remember when we first met,and the strong love that grew between us.

To work the love into practical things so nothing can divide us

Grant us a Love that grows stronger with each passing year.

We ask for words both kind and loving

and for hearts always ready to ask forgiveness as well as to forgive.

Guide us to overcome every challenge

and keep our dreams pure to each other always.

Dear Lord,we put our marriage into Your hands.Amen

If your heart acquires strength, you will be able to remove blemishes from others without thinking evil of them.

Thanks everyone for the welcome!

I have definitely been checking out those Canada forums - really really helpful!! Definitely the healthcare thing is an issue for my family, but moreso they haven't been happy with the whole economic crisis thing.

(I personally will miss the Timmies - I think my fiance already does! haha!)

Hello and Welcome aboard!

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Welcome to VJ!!! I'm also an Island girl!! :star: Born and raised in the Comox Valley. I just moved down to SC a little over a week ago, and am getting married 3 weeks from now. Hope to hear from you lots and how your journey is going.

I hear you on the medical and Tim Hortons!! Oh well, small price to pay I guess. Course, the other thing I'm missing in the lower temperatures, and relatively no humidity  Then again, I just might be liking this winter!!
