Hi,

One quick question. Only photo ID that i have is passport. Can i get my state ID (illinois ) without social security nuimber. Can i have any other photo ID before my green card interview.

Need your assistance

I would call your local DMV and ask. We were able to get one in Michigan without a SSN, so each state is different.

Your passport is the only ID you need for your interview.....

In most states you can't get a photo ID until you have your EAD or your greencard to show them that you are legal... and yes you need a social security number too, for the same reason. Until then you can use your passport as ID...

(for that matter when you get your EAD it basically IS ID even though it says 'not for ID purposes' on it...)

In Montana I got my state ID the week after I arrived in the States on K1. No SSN needed.

they are a bit odf pricks at the dmv in illinois..sanita had her ss#..but as usal after a long azz wait...there computer system to the social scurity dept for verification was down..i got pissed and the next time we had no issue..need her passport. I94...sscard...and address ( letters from 2 sources) showing her mailing address..

We're in NJ -- anyone know if my husband will need his EAD or will the K1 be enough? The MVC site is less than helpful in it's list of "non-citizens" permitted IDs:

# Treaty traders

# Students and their families

# Temporary workers, accompanying spouses and children

# Foreign information representatives and their families

# Exchange visitors and their families

# Intra-company transfers, accompanying spouses and minor children

# Persons with temporary protection from deportation

# Canadians with temporary residence

# Religious ministers and spouses

# Parents of U.S. citizens

# International athletes or entertainment groups

# Persons in a reciprocal exchange program

Obviously, immigrants with perminant residence can have a DL/ID but I don't see that listed as "non-citizens" permitted, so I doubt it's a complete list. Anyone out there have experience with K1 visa holders getting a state ID in NJ?
