Hi, all!

We have our interview scheduled for Aug 17th and today we find out that my wife (petitioner) does not have her original birth certificate, looks like it may have been misplaced somewhere. We have copies of the same as well as originals of all other documents (such as passport, marriage certificate, etc). However, the interview letter clearly says to bring originals as well as copies of all documents including birth certificate. Will this be an issue during the interview? Is there something I can do about this? I just wanted to know your thoughts on this. Thanks in advance!

Apply for an original now. When she goes for her interview and they ask for the original she can tell them the story and then she can supply it when she gets it. Maybe they wont ask for it, but if they do you will be days ahead and can supply it upon reciept.

I would at least take the copy

I agree. Consulates generally seem to be willing to accept legible copies but at their descretion can insist on the original. Why take a chance?

Really? I thought only birth certificate of the benefitiary is required for the interview, and any proof of citizenship of the petitioner.. My husband lost his birth certificate, so we only sent a copy of his passport with AOS package. It wouldn't be a problem to replace it if he was born here, in Arizona, but he was born in Nevada, and that's where we would have to go to replace it. Are you guys sure there is birth certificate of USC is REQUIRED for the interview?

At our Interview, my wife the USC didn't have a Birth Certificate. The IO asked if we have a Passport or Naturalization Certificate. We produced the passport and he said, its OK. He confirms the Birth Date. That was it. For the Benificiary, the Original along with certfied translation is required.
