Hello everyone,

My father has had his interview today, according to him everything went well but they asked him to bring translations of his marriage certificate and police records again. When my father asked the gentelman if he could return those to him today he replied no just get them translated and wait for a call back from the consulate and that it will take some time. Anyone with similar situation please tell me what does that mean and how long it would take before they call him back. Thank you very much!

Did they keep his passport? Did they issue him a 221(g) document?

It sounds like they need to do the standard FBI name checks that they run on all visa applicants. Once that check is complete, they will call him and tell him they are ready to issue the visa. When he returns to pick up the visa, he should bring the documents they requested.

Name checks can take anywhere from a couple of days to several months, there's really no way to tell in advance.

Thank you for your reply!

No they did not keep his passport nor did they give him any forms/letters, they said file look good and had him sign and then requested the 2 forms be translated.

Usually they will issue a 221(g) document stating that the case has been forwarded to Washington for administrative processing. I'm not sure why your father would not have received this paper if indeed he is in administrative processing.

You can call the DOS at (202)663-1225 to see if they have forwarded the case for AP. I would wait at least a few days after the interview to give them a chance to forward it.
