I read on the USCIS web site that they just changed it to one year. Go to the USCIS web site and confirm it though.

Assuming that you're self-employed,ths is what form I-134 says:

C. If self-employed:

1. Copy of last income tax return filed; or

2. Report of commercial rating concern.

But I've read/heard that it really depends on the consulate.

This will depend on what is required of the individual consulate.

The I-134 whilst not a requirement for K visa's is one thing a Conof may use when determining if an applicant will or wont become a public charge. Hence why documentation other then what is asked for with the I-134 is often required.

Overcoming the Public Charge

While an applicant for a fiancé(e) visa is not required to file an affidavit of support (I-134), it is nevertheless useful in proving the applicant is not likely to become a public charge. The Immigration and Nationality Act does require the applicant to establish to the satisfaction of the consular officer at the time of the application for a visa, and also to the satisfaction of an officer of the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) at the time of application for admission to the United States, that he or she is not likely at any time to become a public charge.

I think you may be referring to the new rules regarding the I-864 which is now only 1 years tax returns. This is for family based immigrant visas and AOS.

In the process of K1, only one year tax return is required but then again, rather too much then short.

GaryC,

You are making two common but inappropriate connections

- the USCIS is not the DoS (the consulates), and

- the financial evidence requirements for a K1 non-immigrant visa are not the same as for an immigrant visa or adjustment of status (I-864). See Aussiewench's post.

Yes, I am self-employed. I have submitted I-134, last 3 yrs tax return, and my business license to the consulate. As to everyone has said, never too much then short.

P.S. My fiancee is going to have her interview tonight. We are very nervous and losing lot of sleep. Please, pray for us. I'll post the result tomorrow.
