America needs less government, is free market society to develop competition and fair prices to the American people were essentially the words of President Reagan when he wanted to deregulate banks and insurance companies as well as anti-trust laws. It was in 1984 checking back on my records that our health insurance rates really took a major leap and banking investors were free to make investments with our money anyway they wanted also leading to our financial collapse. Greed is what Reagan created, helped by Bush, Clinton, and Bush and gave a monopoly to the likes of Bill Gates.

Feel that government control over our health, is going way over broad, as a matter of fact, the only kind of people I really hate doing business with is any form of government, they act like little gods, unreasonable, no compromises, you just do what you are told kind of thing.

All I wish the government would do, is to dig up those old laws and restore them, many were made under FDR to give us a level playing field, would rather deal with a private insurance company rather than the government.

why? because people are afraid of the unknown (moreover if they don't educate themselves). According to them, it's the nemesis of our economic and political system, therefore should be feared and/or squashed, kind of like the communism back in the cold war days.

Knowledge will set you free, educate yourself at least you can have a personal opinion and agree or not to the basics of the political system, at the same time will stop nodding to everything Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Beck, and Fox news tell you and you accept w/o questioning.

What position would this country be in if this healthcare bill was passed 10 years ago? With medicare, medicaid and social security as models. What would have happened to quality of care when the financial crisis hit?

We have a model of what it would look like. California. In dire straights cutting to the bone to save money, whos paying? The very ones put in the position by left wing politicians professing to "help" them. Beleive me if a hard recession or depression ever hit us the first thing to go would be healthcare so to even go down that road is pure foolishness.

The costs would have been reduced. Why? federal buying power. Same way the US military gets to bulk buy and save. Same way people who are not even in the military get to go to military commissaries and purchase food for a discount. Mate, that is as socialist as it gets. Americans already pay more (per person) than most other developed countries yet don't cover everyone or pre-existing conditions. That is fact. Insurance and pharmaceutical companies are ripping Americans off. Quality of care. Have you used doctors in other countries? We're not exactly receiving platinum service here. One hospital wing in a government funded hospital in AUS is larger than most PRIVATE US hospitals I have been to. Plus newer too. Private hospitals only upgrade when they can make more money period. Same way the only cover towns they can make money in. Anyway, that is not what Obama is proposing.

If you lose your job, who is going to cover you? Marc, it kills me that any blue collar or small town worker would be against this. Personally, I could afford to pay for my own coverage outright. What about the guy on the street? What about you and your misses, if you lose your job? That is who I want covered.

The fact is that after seeing both systems at hand, if I was to need a serious operation, I would fly to Australia to have it done. And yes I am covered on the highest possible Anthem policy available here. Doesn't that say something to you? Nothing wrong with the doctors but when factoring in value too, the treatment is better in Aus.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Australia initially had a 22% sales only tax. After research and consultation with the Canadian government, the conservatives (irony hey) proposed changing it to the Canadian GST equivalent. The other opposition kicked and screamed.

Why did the opposition kick and scream? Didn't they realize that it's one australia, one people, one destiny?

Same reason with health care here. OMFG change!! we are going to f--n die. Reminds me of the scene out of Indian Jones were the roof with spikes is coming down. Funny how now that the same party is in office, they have neither said a word or proposed changing it.

Americans use more drugs (both legal and illegal) than do most citizens of other developed countries.

Americans are obese and eat more ####### than citizens of other developed countries.

Generally speaking, citizens of other developed countries are healthier than Americans -

which has more to do with their lifestyle than the quality of their health care.

Which has a lot to do with heavy handed regulation abroad. There are chemicals permissible to be used in food here that are banned overseas. Products also have better labeling. Coming from the UK, you should know that first hand. I really liked how you could buy something here and if you didn't pay attention, it would say x portions. Those sort of shenanigans is what a 'socially responsible' government prevents abroad. The government's job is to look out for the masses. That is what being "social" is all about.

I had an article that was deleted because of my jokes but it stated that once Mexicans moved to the US, their rate of cancers increased by 40%. That is not just from eating unhealthy, it's because of the ####### unregulated companies put into food; as well as the chemicals that have polluted the US and our water supplies. I actually buy NZ water from World Market to drink. I'll be damned if I drink our polluted cancerous chlorinated #######.

UPS and fedex don't pickup and deliver to your house daily or for 44 cents. Australia Posts is actually quite profitable. Delivering hundreds of millions profit for the government there each year.

How about asking why the US government organizations are doing poorly? Where in Obama's plan did he say the government is going to run health care anywy? That sort of ####### from repubs is disingenuous. The party makes ###### up the same way people said it was a 'war for oil', which it was not.

We should get rid of the military then. Or is socialism allowed when it comes to that. US military is as socialist as it gets. Government pays for your food. Government pays for your health care. Government gives you benefits and free money for basically doing jack ######. Basically welfare but you get to shoot ###### up.

Why do we need a thousand page bill, if the government is not trying to run healthcare in the US? Personally, I am for total nationalization of the heathcare industry, including dentistry, and the drug companies.
