Hey everyone, I'm kinda new to this so I have a few questions, maybe someone can help..

I'm looking at flights from Chicago to Lima, just wondering if anyone has suggestions on which airline is best. I used Continental last time I traveled to visit my boyfriend and everything went great. I'd like to stick with the same airline, but I saw American Airlines and Delta are cheaper for the dates I want to travel. Has anyone here used these airlines before?

Also, I'm thinking of moving to Lima for a year so I'll probably buy a round-trip ticket but never use the return flight (I want to buy round-trip in case they give me any problems leaving the US or entering Peru) Any suggestions on how I can get some of my money back if I don't use the return flight? Are there airlines with good return policies?

Thanks :star:

Both times I have flown down I have gone Lan Chile. Both times were great experience (on time, good to great service). Price has been the best for the dates I have flown. The only downside is the connecting in Los Angeles (but that is just because LAX is so unpleasant). My wife flew up to visit me and flew Continental and it was horrible (delays, uncaring service personnel, etc). We chose this flight for the ease of connection in Houston (happily - we thought - avoiding LAX). Never flown Delta or AA.

No info for you on the return policy.

Just my 2 centimos

Bon voyage and enjoy my envy - I miss my wife :(

Thank you so much for your reply. I will have to consider LAN...yeah LAX does sound kind of unpleasant, never been there but I've heard its nuts. The flight I'm looking at connects in Miami.

I hope you will see your wife soon :( I know it's so hard being apart from our loved ones

Check out Spirit Airlines, they have newer planes and great prices. It is a no frills airline so be prepared to pay for that bag of peanuts but if your OK with that, the fares are really good.

Lan Peru makea all US airlines look like a pack of disorganized, rude amateurs. Everything about it is ten times better than any of the US airlines

making it look easy since::::April, 2005::::

Go to www.vayama.com you can get pretty good prices there and usually can choose the air line you like. They are a high trafic user of LANPERU and can usually get good prices.

I have used Delta, Continental, Lan Peru and american air lines. Lan peru has been the best but cost a little more. I did not like continental at all, the flight I took had long lay overs. I took American air lines and never again. They lost my luggage for 8 days and I would have never gotten it back if I didnt kick fight screem yell and use every profanity in the book on them and they had it all along but wouldnt do any thing about it.

One thing you need to know about delta is that their fares include the peru airport tax where as the others I have taken do not so that is a $30 savings off the top.

I've taken American and LAN. I like LAN for their on time performance, but I don't like 8+ hours on the plane. American has it's issues, but they have always gotten me on another plane. Not always the fastest though. Due to some delays, my luggage has not always arrived with me, but it was always delivered quickly. American does pay the airport tax in Lima. I have a frequent flyer account with American and accrue miles on both airlines. Just can't upgrade on LAN with AA miles. Sure would be nice on that long flight.

LAN lost a bag on my last trip home and said to make a claim at my final destination. I didn't like how they handled it in LA, but the bag was delivered.

As for immigration, Miami was a nightmare when my husband entered. The gates were closed due to a storm and there were tons of new immigrants to be processed. Since Miami is AA in reality, they can make changes easily, but the luggage is another issue. In LA with my stepdaughter, it was a breeze. And I just walk to the appropriate terminal and check into the next airline. Good exercise after a long sit.

Good luck whatever you decide.

LAN is THE BEST airlines to Peru....... They fly out of Miami and it' about a 5 hour flying time trip. Their planes are very new and on most of their planes you get your own entertianment tv infront of you... Flight attendants are 100% more attentive and friendlier that any U.S. airline. You also get a pretty good meal for airline standards as well as 1 or 2 free adult beverages. They also dont charge for bags

American is OK Miami direct to Lima..... older aircraft, but if the price is right.... it's good.... But you do pay for your bags

COPA airlines also flies to Lima from Miami with about an hour stop over in Panama.... I've flown them a couple of times due to their prices being low and good service...... Just takes a little longer to get their.

Spirit Air also flies to Lima from Ft. Lauderdale, but people I know who have flown on Spirit HATED it. They give you nothing and you have to buy water and a coke if you want it..... Heck if I'm going to be on a plane for over 5 hours....... At least give me soda I don't have to pay $5.00 for.
