Just curious if they use the same 4.0 scale as we do in the USA.

Reading this information below from the University of San Jose - Recoletos, the scoring system seems a LOT different from the way it is done in the USA.

Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated here!

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP

For all colleges except Law and Graduate School

Free tuition for one semester for students with an average of 1.0 - 1.2 with no grade of less than 2.0 in any subject in the preceding semester, except P.E. and ROTC, provided they are enrolled in at least 15 academic units.

75 percent discount on tuition fees for one semester for students with an average of 1.21 - 1.30; with no grade less than 2.5 in any subject in the preceding semester except P.E. and ROTC. They must be enrolled in at least 15 academic units.

50 percent discount on tuition fees for one semester for students with an average of 1.31 - 1.40; with no grade lower than 3.0 in any subject in the preceding semester except P.E. and ROTC. They must be enrolled in at least 15 academic units.

College of Law

In the College of Law, freshmen may enjoy full scholarship of they graduated from their undergraduate courses Summa or Magna Cum Laude, and a one school year partial scholarship (50 percent) if they graduated Cum Laude from their undergraduate course.

Full scholarship will be given to law students in their second, third and fourth year classes based on their records during the previous school year provided that their average is not less than 1.45.

Based on their records during the previous school year law students with an average of not less than 1.75, in the second, third and fourth year classes shall be given 50 percent scholarship award.

Yes, where 1.0 is the highest grade you'll get... Where 3 is 75% and 4 is Conditional and 5 is Failed...

Some universities are backwards (University of the Philippines), and some use the same 4.0 scale (De La Salle University).

I should not have mentioned to her that I graduated with a 3.685 here. LOL!

That score in the PI would mean that I am brain damaged!

Depending on the school I guess... OMG!

Thank you for the reply. That answered all my questions about that and more!

FWIW, I was looking at her sisters report card and wondering how in the heck she could fail P.E!!! I knew that something was NOT the same with the grade scale.

Thanks! :star:

She failed P.E. since it is definitely a BORING class. A lot of my classmates tend to cut classes or go absent on this subject.

Meryll's university grades are on the 1.0 to 5.0 scale too. I took the time to convert them to the 4.0 scale and then found this: http://www.wes.org/gradeconversionguide/

At least it wasn't as complicated as Forecasting with Stats. Just the review made my brain hurt. :jest:

Different schools have different grading system. The first university I attended have 1-10, 10 as the highest, below 5 is failed. The second university was 1-100, 100 highest, 75 is the passing grade and below that is failed. It's pretty confusing, I have 2 transcripts with 2 different grading systems.

Just curious if they use the same 4.0 scale as we do in the USA.

Reading this information below from the University of San Jose - Recoletos, the scoring system seems a LOT different from the way it is done in the USA.

Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated here!

Grading system depends on the school. La Salle highest grade is 4 while University of the Philippines highest grade is 1.

You have to know the particular school.

Yes, i second the motion.

UP : highest grade is 1.0, failing mark is 5.

4.0 is conditional meaning, you have an option to take a removal exam, if you pass it gets converted to 3.0 (you pass, don't have to repeat the subject, if you fail, gets converted to 5.0, you repeat and wait for next year if it's seasonal and a pre-requisite to another subject, lucky if it's offered next semester).

Just curious if they use the same 4.0 scale as we do in the USA.
