she talk more about it. she is scared and worried for Thailand as a county. She did say they love the one princess and wish she could be queen. but she know that would not happen. She just praying the king lives long

=================================================================

oh I see that so I am on where are you now ?

"She did say they love the one princess" - Mine agrees, she in fact met that princess

because she was the presenter for the award from the King that my better half

accepted for her school.

"Wherever you go, there you are."

I Know Nan got her degree from one of the kings family. I guess that is something the king family does all the time.

When Nan grandmother dies 3 days after our married. That was so sad :crying: . At our wedding grandmother said "Now she can die, she was at her granddaughter's wedding". she was in good health too. I have meet a lot of people from Divisions and District level of the government.

They lite the fire of the crematory with the King flame. It a big deal anytime the King Flame is used. Had to have Police and Military escorting the flame.

For only been going to Thailand for a year and a half I seen a lot of ceremonies. Have not seen a male become a monk yet. Almost did a monk for the day at her grandmother funeral. But it was 3 days after or wedding and Nan did not want me spending a day and night away from her. plus she took it hard, almost passed out 2 time cry so much. Everyone thought it would be better to support and watch over Nan.

Also nan did not want me to get my head shaved. We did ask the monk if I could do it and he was trying to teach me the rules.

He was laughing like hell when I was trying to say them.

Yes I haven't been at a Thai funeral yet, but I have seen quite a few pics because as government officials

all teachers and even the spouses of teachers (that's me) have the right to get the King's flame.

An ornately-liveried representative of the King brings it in a glass box.

We went to visit the husband of a fellow teacher who was dying of cancer on the last day of my visit in '08.

Three days after I returned to NYC, he died. The school director brought the entire "management group"

to the hospital because it was very important to make this show of support. Teachers in Thailand are really

more like an extended family, more so than in the US.

I might try the monk thing (for a very short time) after I retire, but I think that her Ex may make that into a lifestyle change after he retires.

Nan's grandfather want me to do the monk think also. He is one of the elder's of the Temple. I know Nan hope Chase will do it when he turns 20. She said a Daughter gets married for her mother and a Son becomes a monk.

Her grandfather is pretty much on his death bed. They have him at home now to die. I hope I can go to his funeral. you do know it is 5 days long and the family stay at the temple all the time day and night.

I would do the Monk for the day for him for sure. Anyone that has not become a monk can do the monk for the day and help guild the soul.

They will probably say that Bangkok is the head of the military. Lop Buri is for sure the seat of power. Ask Mr. Anupong. I thought Mr. T was running things until I woke up and saw tanks in the street. Abhisit knows it, and so does the rest of the MPs.

From the felling I get it goes the King then the army then the government in the order of power. Maybe not on paper.

Yeah true. King can't say it though. That place is gonna fall apart when he dies. It's kinda sad they don't allow females to run things. Maha Chakri Srindorn should be the next leader. Unfortunately, they'll give it to Vajiralongkorn.

yeap, I got that same feeling from my wife. The people don't respect or love Vajiralongkorn. I would not rule out a military coup and a power play by Thaksin Shinawatra after the kind dies. I would not want to be in Bangkok after the king dies.

Thaksin should be killed. The sooner the better. I have never felt hatred like I do for that man. My wife and her family think he is a good man. We have had some fall-outs over that. We just agree to disagree at this point.

It's gonna be a mess when the King dies.

Please do not make comments like this on here. Thanks.

So Youtube feels itself able to host such controversial remarks, yet VJ cannot. Interesting.

Politics can be a heated topic. I agree with the moderators and the TOS.

my bring up Thaksin and the King in this thread was to talk about the love the people have for the King and how worried my wife and I are for the future events in Thailand when the Kind passes away.

Sometimes, as farangs we misread the deference that many Thais display toward us and as a consequence

we may think we can throw our weight around like we are the "top dog." I think I have learned from this in some way. As always, my better half is a good teacher.

We had to go to a streetside bus terminal in BKK one day. Usually I try to go with the flow but sometimes

when people don't behave according to my farang concept of behavior, I get a little out of wack.

Our taxi came to a stop at the curb and even before I opened the door, a guy who was working

for one of the bus drivers yanked open the door and grabbed my luggage expecting us to follow

to his friend's bus. I'm pretty sure the guy knew only minimal English but my teeth and growl made

it clear that I didn't like what he was doing and I yanked my luggage out of his hands. He did back off

after giving me a few choice words in Thai. This was one of the few cases where she got angry at me

and said that I have to be more sensitive, this is the way this guy makes his living. She admitted he

shouldn't have been so aggressive, but was more worried that he could have started a fight and

actually hurt me. She was right. I had no idea if he could have been packing a knife or just some

mean Muay Thai. She said these were street people, they don't know any law or rules of behavior

and they could do anything to me they wanted if they chose to.

Lesson learned.

I never worried much about Thai street people. All of them that I have talk to are very nice people, they have family and are just trying to make a living. We stay at the same hotel in BKK most of the time, As soon as I get out the taxi. They wave to me and ask where is chase.

I remember one time we where walking down the street with my sister and her husband shopping at the street vendors. My bother in law seen a female vendor sit and eating her dinner. He ask her what she was eat. she explained it to him "snails" and then shared her dinner with him.

Many times I prefer the street vendors & such to the upper classes,

but my reaction had nothing to do with his position or lack of it,

it was just a reflex when he yanked my luggage. I would have

reacted the same way in the US but in Thailand it would have

been better to have more discretion.

John, what exactly is your first language? No disrespect, but if English is your first language, what is up with your grammar and spelling? I know this is just a bulletin board, but trying to understand what you write is NOT easy.

Are you American? Just curious.

"We are a family of two counties and two cultures, but live as one"

John, what exactly is your first language? No disrespect, but if English is your first language, what is up with your grammar and spelling? I know this is just a bulletin board, but trying to understand what you write is NOT easy.

Are you American? Just curious.

John never said he was born in the US.

Nan doesn't seem to mind.

A naturalized American is still an American.

You would never believe I had 2 brothers if you compared their written English to mine.

It could be a neurological dysfunction that has nothing to do with intelligence.

Maybe it's no dysfunction at all but some people have trouble with the keyboard.

I've known quite a few foreign-born folks whose spoken & written English was way above that of "native" speakers.

I've known many foreign-born folks whose English was sub par but whose intelligence and ability to care was greater than natives.

My father often spoke in "deese dems & doze" but I believe his common sense was far superior to my mom's who was a top student.

Aggie, I know you didn't mean any disrespect and neither do I, but if John wants to reply (optional), I'm curious as well.
