The politicians are not asking their constituents, “What should we do about healthcare reform?” They are saying. “This is what we plan to do and why.”

So what's this BS about opposition coming only from those who lost the election?

Republicans... and Democrats in districts with lots of Republicans (we call them Blue Dogs).

The strength of our political system is of course because it is built on democracy. The ugly side of democracy is when both parties would rather see the other fail than succeed (which is what we have now). The Democrats & Republicans are like a married couple that used to have their differences but found a way to compromise, but now they hate each other & most of their actions are out of spite. The American people are like the children caught in the middle of it all.

Half of the opposition to Obama's policies are merely because he is a Democrat... I doubt most Americans (and VJers for that matter) even know what the hell they are opposing. It's a bad situation that won't improve unless everyone stops with the rhetoric & finger pointing and actually starts giving a damn about what is best for the American people. Certainly the term "best" means different things to the Republicans & Democrats, but a solution is always possibe if both sides are willing to compromise.

He has explained many times what he wants to see in the final bill.

He hasn't explained how much it's really going to cost us and how he's going to pay for it.

I've heard lots of proposals - a federal VAT, tax on millionaires, "fat tax" on soft drinks,

tax on cosmetic surgeries, full or partial tax on health care benefits - lots of fluff and

"options on the table" but no actual details.

obama wants the people to simply fork over money ... without providing total costs and how these costs are to be met.

And that's the problem. Even if he finds a way to pay for it, he essentially wants to create

a program that grows exponentially without any curbing of the growth of funding. You can't

have a program that is an open-ended check. What are we going to do with the unfunded

future liabilities?

Every man, woman and child in America already owes $38,024 in government debt.

wait till obama tacks on a few more zeros. then it will be real money and people might start paying attention.

I tried to explain that to Dog. He doesn't see a problem with Medicare having a 38.7 trillion dollar unfunded liability. It amazes me that some people cannot grasp that Medicare is on the verge of collapse and wants to expand it to cover everyone or create an new program that will just end up the same way.

1. I didn't read this anywhere (some of us are capable of independent thought).

2. You were at least occasionally funny before, now you are just a sad copy of Luckystrike with his lame drive-by bullet statements.

3. Drink a few more buds & come back with a decent one-liner you hack.

The good news is support for Health Care Reform is falling fast. It would be political suicide for the bluedogs to vote for it now.

32% Favor Single-Payer Health Care, 57% Oppose

Monday, August 10, 2009

Thirty-two percent (32%) of voters nationwide favor a single-payer health care system where the federal government provides coverage for everyone. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 57% are opposed to a single-payer plan.

Fifty-two percent (52%) believe such a system would lead to a lower quality of care while 13% believe care would improve. Twenty-seven percent (27%) think that the quality of care would remain about the same.

Forty-five percent (45%) also say a single-payer system would lead to higher health care costs while 24% think lower costs would result. Nineteen percent (19%) think prices would remain about the same.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_con..._care_57_oppose

And before someone says "they are not suggesting single payer insurance" let me remind you that it is the final goal of Obama and the dem leadership. People know this and if they don't we will remind them of it.

Perhaps someone can answer this question for me - I've been following some of the TV coverage about the health reforms and I'm baffled by what people mean by 'Government'. I thought this was a democracy and that we're the government and if there's something we don't like about the people we've elected we have timely (or fairly timely) elections to get us a new set of representatives - for the people, by the people and all that...

So we're suggesting we the people take over the running of our health and continue to have the power to tell people how to do that ?

Or are most Americans now certain we believe in a system of patronage and the government represents the feudal lord? How many people here are actually represented by the people who are suggesting we keep government out of government and let profit-driven organisations run our healthcare instead of us?
