My favorite

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I do have to say that while America does have ‘some’ of the smartest people in the world, no offense, but the country also has a hell of a lot of people who are just uneducated and foolish. My estimate is that 15% of the population is incredibly smart, the other 85% is basically dumb.

What a hack of a statement.

Though you might be on to something but need to use a softer explanation?

Would this be the reason we have the current administration and congress. 85% uneducated, foolish, dumb, voters who elected officials on feelings and not substance?? Are you saying we would not have the politicians we have now if we were educated?

I might agree??

Well you have to remember that it is the people who vote these poor performing politicians into office in the first place. I have never voted for someone based on their charisma. I want to see the candidate's resume. As I would with any other job. I think people would vote quite differently if they treated politics as an interview process and actually looked at a person's resume, rather than falling for the three-worded slogans or song and dance of many American politicians. That in-itself says a lot about peoples' intelligence.

It's funny to see you two act like that since out of everyone I have met in the world, the British are the most vocal about America and Americans. With reference to the OP that is.

Whenever I am in the UK and am out with friends, the second I mention I live in America, it's all over. After that, it's as if I have a bulls-eye painted on my head. Heck, even when I was getting my K1 in Sydney and caught up with some friends, first guy to say, "you got a visa where (roll eyes)", yep a Brit.

...

If you noticed, in my post I did state that I estimate. For all I know the number could be higher.

Then again, regardless of the fact that stats are not biased, stats don't mean much in this country. Why? here is an example.

2% of Americans owned slaves = whitey is an evil racist

55% of illegal immigrants are from Mexico = you stereotyping racist mf!!

go figure.. Also, hence the term "Only in America"..

Ah, sounds like a good pitch for a Statist autocracy.

Paraphrasing Maher, "People are stupid, therefore decisions about them should be left to wiser minds." I believe Pol Pot shared similar sentiments as he "rebuilt" Cambodia.

It depends on how seriously you take it. Maher doesn't exactly have (any) political power, after all.

Oh, I'm not worried about Maher.

Just pointing out the fact that infamous men have had disastrous results adhering to the underlying meaning in Maher's post.

Do you think all opinions are equally valid then Matt? What about referendum politics, does that have a good working record?

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .
