What I miss are eccles cakes - I used to love getting one of those and nibbling away all of the doughy crust to get to the filling - yum! I haven't been able to find one anywhere here! (although maybe that is better for my hips . . . )

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

My favourite "carnival" food is vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two waffles. I used to get them at the food pavillion at the CNE. Funny, I don't eat waffles or ice cream on their own.

Have any of you been to your state fair yet? I believe they happen in the fall. This will be my third fall in NC and it's high time I went! All this talk of beaver tails and such is making me crave some ol' timey carnival grub.

I am soooo looking forward to my first ever State Fair experience! I just wanna look at the food... not necessarily eat it. Last year my husband took pictures of the signs for the different ridiculous food items available at the fair in Tulsa. Let's see... there were sausage rolls on a stick, cookies on a stick, fried brownies on a stick, Chinese food on a stick, chocolate-dipped pickles on a stick, and I believe also deep-fried cheesecake on a stick. I don't know where they come up with these things.

Only State Fair I went to was the Kern County one in the crapass city of Bakersfield, CA. Only reason I went was my friend who knows Weird Al Yankovich wanted to go and see him and the band so we went and hung out with them after the show. I think most the fair before the concert I spent drinking rums and coke and don't even remember the actual fair part...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

The Minnesota State Fair has every imaginable food on a stick.

It also has several foods you can't imagine on a stick, but they are, in fact, on a stick.

I guess a lot of people think food tastes better on a stick. It is kind of practical in a way. In the case of meat, you don't need utencils and with something like brownies, you wouldn't need a napkin for your hands. That's it, tonight's dinner items will all be served on a stick!

Oh my...I have not had this since I was at the CNE as well! And that was about...30 years ago. Wow, they are SO good! The waffles were warm, the ice cream cold...mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Thanks for the memory!
