Ok made 2 trips to Canada this summer and decided to go back in time and eat things I used to eat before I left over a decade ago and see how they taste now.

Coke - This is definatly a huge change. I do not drink soda at all anymore. I still only drink this when I'm visiting Canada. The taste of a coke in a cold can there is really different and really good compared to here. Just as well I only have it on vacation, would hate to see what my teeth would look like after drinking all the time.

Winegums - Used to love these things, bought some and well, I think my taste buds have changed as I didn't think they were really any good. Shame I used to love them

Coffee Crisp - This is about the same as I remember, it's ok, but guess I never did get what people in the US liked about them so much that they would always come over and buy a bunch to bring back.

Harvey's Hamburgers - Taste gets better with every visit. Again like the coke, glad they don't have them here, I'd hate to see how much I'd eat there.

Food Court Chineese Chicken Wings - I have always been a fan of the fast food chineese chicken wings and here I never get anything that seems decent enough from all the restraunts I go to. In Canada all the chineese fast food places seem to cook their wings in a similar way which makes them amazing. Again good thing they don't have them here or my diet would be destroyed.

Ketchup Chips - You know, after getting my fix from the Burger King Ketchup chips you can get in the stores here, the ones in Canada no longer are anything much different, sure they're a bit better, but my craving for them no longer exists. This last trip I didn't even bother getting a bag.

Oh and again I noticed this a lot when I was visiting as I noticed in June when I was there that I never noticed when I lived there. People, almost all that I encountered, seem to always raise their voice at the end of a statement like they're asking a question. It's really odd and I don't get where that comes from as I don't remember hearing that growing up at all.

For instance someone will say "So I was walking to the store." in Canadianesse it sounds like "So I was walking to the store?" with a much higher raised pitch on Store. Half the time I couldn't figure out if they were telling me something or asking me a question. It was really strange...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

Yeah that raising at the end is something we have discussed on the board before. It is a unique speech pattern we have developed.

Glad you got a taste of Canada!

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

I never even thought of that! I was so used to watching American TV, when I moved back to Canada and started watching Canadian TV, like some of the programs on Slice, it took a while to get used to.

I actually think I mentioned it on my last trip on the board, that's probably why. I wasn't sure if I had or not, but I noticed it a lot more in the Toronto/Guelph area then in Windsor.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh forgot almost ate my weight in the White Cream Soda Mr. Freezies too. They taste yummier now I think. Too bad all the Otterpops down here have all the flavors but the best one, the white cream soda...

Yes, loved your observations!

When I moved here almost three years ago, I couldn't find Shreddies in the cereal aisle. I kept going back to check (the mark of insanity, right?). I thought the store was just out of stock. I couldn't believe that my husband had never heard of it. Harsh reality finally hit when I found out for certain through this forum that I was SOL. That's probably the number one food item I miss. My sister who lives in Toronto claims chocolate tastes different in the US. Like me, she's got chocoholic tendencies but won't touch the stuff here. She also says the U.K.'s chocolate is better than Canada's and always brings it back from London when she's there on business (and chocolate runs). To be honest, I can't really tell much difference. When I lived in Japan however, I noticed a big difference. Let's just say it a bit of an acquired taste.

I used to love big American drugstores. I never came to the States on vacation without finding one and spending upwards of an hour perusing the aisles. Now I think the new big refurbished Shoppers Drug Marts and Pharma Plus' seem much more upscale and appealing.

I grew up in Nova Scotia and I definitely knew them as Revello's.

That is what we called them too.

I am from Nova Scotia also. Just wondering what part you grew up in.
