Was reading the guide for applying for SSN for my husband and I'm confused. What is the I-94 exactly? We can't seem to find it if he has one! We just want to get him on my bank account and get his license, etc. and not sure whether this is even something we need or not. Thanks!

I-94 is definitely needed and should be in his passport .

What does it look like? Only thing in his passport is the VISA with a stamp saying he's authorized to be here until October 17th off to the side of it. Is the stamp the I-94?

It's needed come AOS time as well so you'll need to find it if he was given one.

I seem to remember that there have been cases here in the past where people were not given an I-94 by CBP at their port of entry. I can't remember exactly how they sorted it out but there was a solution.

Adjustment of Status from K-1 (Very abridged version)

05/20/08 - POE: Chicago O'Hare

07/18/08 - Married

08/30/08 - I-485/I-765 mailed...

03/17/09 - Card production ordered (no notification received!)

03/26/09 - Green card received (196 days)

Removal of Conditions

02/15/11 - I-751 mailed to VSC...

02/22/11 - NOA1 (received 03/03/11)

04/04/11 - Biometrics appt (notice received 03/19/11)

08/22/11 - * * * t u m b l e w e e d s * * * (T+6 months and counting)

09/20/11 - Service Request #1

10/26/11 - Service Request #2

11/29/11 - Interview @ Atlanta Field Office - Approved & I-551 stamped

12/07/11 - Card production ordered

12/10/11 - Green card received (293 days)

He filled that out on the plane and handed it to someone at POE along with all his other stuff and never got it handed back. So, anyone know what we're supposed to do at this point?

I agree that the I-94 card should be in his passport; it was given to him by immigration officer at the port of entry. It is the stamp on a piece of white paper indicating length of time one can stay in the USA.

It was never given to him. He remembers filling out the white form as they were getting close to arrival and handing it to an officer at some point of the POE experience, but he was never given it back and it's not with his passport. I found a section on the USCIS website saying you can apply for a replacement one, but it seems they're going to charge him $320 for it when he was never given it. Not sure how to proceed now.

Here is a very recent thread about somebody else who wasn't given an I-94 at the POE. Solution was to go to the local CBP Deferred Inspections office.
