Hi. My name's Peter and this is my first post on this site.

I have what may potentially be a problem for me when I apply for a visa for my Vietnamese spouse:

My name is "Peter T___ P____ B____" (name hidden due to internet paranoia). The "T___ P___" is my middle name.

My passport has "Peter T. P____ B____".

I generally use just "Peter P____ B____".

My marriage paperwork in Vietnam has all three of the above. My Vietnamese marriage license has "Peter P____ B____".

My question is: Will this be a problem for me when I apply over here in the US and at the Consulate in Vietnam? The officials at the So Thu Phap made a small fuss over the "T." and my middle name in general.

Has anyone encountered, had or heard about this problem before? These are all my names. They also have my SSN, passport #, date of birth and address. That should be enough to verify my identity.

What can I do to avoid or alleviate this problem? I thought about hiring a lawyer, even though I am confident in my ability to do the paperwork myself.

Thanks in advance.

Peter

I have the same problem. And they made a fuss about it when I got married - she made me write my name about 50+ times and none of them were identical. ;oP

Anyways...

My Birth Cert is Linda N----- K-- L-

Passport, TX Drivers License, and Marriage Certificate show Linda K-- L-

School / Church Records show M---- Linda N----- K-- L-

I sign Linda L-.

When I did my paperwork, to make things consistent, I used my passport and didn't have any problems.

I would recommend writing: Peter T.P---- B-- that's just my opinion though...

I used Linda K-- L- (matched my marriage certificate) and sent in my passport as evidence of us citizenship. I didn't mention anything about any of the other names though...

You could do the same too, but then again, you can just explain the difference in the names. Either that or you can just change your name and drop off the 1st of your middle names...

The background check for the USC is done by the NVC, not the Consulate. On the G-325 you will list any other names used. Write down all the iterations of your name. This will give NVC and the CO in HCMC all the info that they need.

Thanks for the replys. I'd appreciate more input if anyone has any.

I think both the I-130 and I-129 also have a place for other names, which should help me out.

I'm going to do more research on this site, and will probably do the paperwork myself. I hope to start it next week. I'll probably have more questions as I start learning more.

Thanks again.

I can relates to your topic, but vice verse. My wife name has 4 words. C Suong(First), A(Last), B(Middle). Now, she came to US only 3 words on her name.

Suong, B A. missing the word C.

I have find out it's better if you put both words first name together. (with a dash (-) together for the first name).

For example : C-Suong, B. A.

If you name is A (first), B and C (middle), D (last) = A, B-C, D

or

If you name is A and B (first), C (middle), D (last) = A-B, C, D

I hope this help.
