Wife Approved, Process for her Daughter?

Hope this is the appropriate forum for this...

Everything went very smoothly for my wife's K3 visa in Ciudad Juarez in Mexico back in June. However, we hit a snag.

My step daughter (wife's daughter) is ten years old. Everything I read in preparation for the visa interview stated she DID NOT need a passport for the visa interview process and to subsequently travel to the U.S. However, when my wife and step-daughter went for the medical, they said a passport was mandatory for all persons getting a medical exam, no matter the age! My wife and I freaked out for a second, but we went through the process for just my wife and decided to figure out my step daughter's visa situation later.

So does anyone know the process I must go through for my step daughter? What forms do I need to start filling out in this situation? We have since got my step daughter a Mexican passport. My wife already has her visa and everything is fine for her.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Tim

Did you put the childs name on the I-129F of you wifes? If so the daughter can get a K4 visa. I "think" you can even if you didn't put her name on it.

You'll have to file a I-130 for the child to adjust status later. Sooner you file the better.

Also file a DS 156 and DS 157 and pay the $131

Thanks so much for the advice Haole! Yes I put my step daughter's name on all visa forms I sent in originally as we had intended for her to come here. So I will look at the K4 and then adjust staus with an I-130, DS 156 and DS 157 ASAP.

Thanks very much!

Tim

Yeah Tim. Get her medical first. I don't know how you guys get visa interview appointments in Mexico or where and how you pay for the DS 157.

I imagine you know since you've been thru it all with moms.

Daughter will have to have a approved I-130 [moms should already have one] to adjust status and get her GC when in the US. You can file for AOS moms and the kid after they get here.

$1010 for mom and $600 for the kid.
