Repubs had 8 years and instead of reform nearly bankrupted the country. So whatever rubbish they publish now is a joke.

50% of the country's bankruptcies are health care related. So clearly the system is not working.

Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American.

 Very valid point. Freedom of speech and expression goes both ways. Shouting down opposing views and effectively shutting down debate is not in the spirit of this great nation of ours. It's very un-American indeed.

Actually, it's two out of three - 67%.

I worked this out the other day. I have the highest coverage anthem policy and you know those guys are not cheap right. Knock on wood but if my wife and I were to get seriously injured and need to be hospitalized, that would cost us $400 in fees. Then if we had to have an MRI, that would cost us another $400. What about 5 or 10 trips to a specialist? Copay of $35 would costs us $700. So this one hypothetical injury would cost in in excess of $1,200, not including medication.

Now the same service under NHS in Australia would cost us about $100. The treatment is covered by the taxes I pay during the year. I could also pay about $70 a month an receive top-notch private coverage, which is second to none, and receive better treatment than any coverage I have seen here.

Hypothetically speaking we lose our job, if our insurance lapses the $1,200 could jump into the hundreds of thousands. Same deal if anthem decides to scrap our policy for not covering xyz injury. Should have read the fine print of course.

We lose our jobs under NHS, costs zero. Furthermore, due to the fact we are unemployed, we would be able to quality for a healthcare card which means all testing is covered by the government and medication costs are capped at $4.50. And I am talking non-generic meds here either. Something not one conservative there has an issue with; for obvious and common sense reasons.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Why would you lose your job? What are you, some kind of loser?

In America, we don't pour good money after bad. Once you lose your job, we know you're a bad investment. Better to just let you die.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

I take it you've never been on an American college campus. You've missed more a few shouters and pie throwers.

Not one of the comments against UHC you see at these town hall meetings is legitimate. Every time I watch the news and see some idiot mouthing off bull ####### against any reform, I just have to laugh and ask myself what sort of backwards morons live in this country. While granted, this is exactly what the first amendment is all about, people need to think before they talk. Especially on issues they know little about.

Like the clown who said the government cannot even run a rebate. American conservatives need to read up on who moved my cheese. Maybe even travel a bit so conservatives overseas can show teach them what progress is.

I agree with you there - its astounding what's happening; and if what Gary said in the other thread is any indication people are deliberately trying to derail reform talks by making up BS about what will be in the reform bill.

There's a whole lot of ####### circulating about "end of life counselling" amounting to euthanasia of seniors and the disabled. How can people live with themselves being so dishonest!?

Well you do receive a mandatory payout there if you are dismissed and have a few years under your belt. The irony is employment conditions are holding out well there. With job ads increasing in some sectors. Australia is a great example of the benefits brought when a government, both federal and state, invests in their country. Literally, country first. Some like Matt can deny the benefits of pro government stimulation until the cows come how but the reality and results suggests otherwise. I even have a local example of this approach: the huge success of cash for clunkers.

That's not in the spirit of freedom of speech. Hear and be heard is the guiding principle rather than who can shout the loudest.

Did you know most of flak on Bush's prescription plan came from conservatives? The point is there are people who'll vote for it no matter what's in it just as there are those would oppose it for their own reasons.

It was astounding to me how Obama's communication director didn't have a single reply to Obama's speech wanting single-payer in 2003 beyond "taken out of context".

If it's so great and popular why can't all those for Obamacare sign up for it and pay with their taxes?

Literally, country first.

That's crazy talk.

I always thought you lib bastards were the problem when in reality the conservatives are just as guilty.

The few things I have noticed about conservatives here are:

1. Have this delusion that even a blue collar worker can become a billionaire if he wanted too. As long as they work hard.

2. Believe you must be a loser if you're out of luck or in a rut and naturally believe this could never happen to them.

3. Like a NYer feels about NYC, feel they live in the best country in the world simply because they say so. No actual comparison or research required. Thus, even when our infrastructure crumbles, why bother changing or improving since we are the best right. I do hear the odd well when I was in (insert US base abroad) the area was not that great. Newsflash: even forts in the US are usually in ######-whole areas.

4. Government sucks no matter what. Which obviously implies that executives and boards are doing what is best for America.

5. if your not waving a flag or wearing a pin, you clearly want the country to collapse.

Well Gary actually said he'd knowingly lie about the bill in order to get it shot down and he has no problem with those who do. Whichever direction you lean in - its hard to see how that's justifiable.

Luckily we don't have politicians lying in support of the bill. Yeah right,

Their view is that reforming health care is so important that lying for a good cause is acceptable because once it becomes law it will never go away once there is a new class of dependents on the programs. Even better just ignore protests for months until they can't be ignored, then paint them all as extremist robots.

You may disagree with parts of this but that's the way it is.
