Completely off topic to the usual political and news worthy postings that fill the off topic zone... but I needed a moment to just complain. So, I'm starting just a little bit of a complaint thread, feel free to add your own complaints that started off your Monday.

So, my day first started off with my daughter and my husband (we are 'newlyweds' and he's a Brit) had a bit of a falling out. My daughter is 11 and starting puberty and not liking my new husband at all... because he has "rules" like, don't open up gooey snot looking putty stuff on the living room coffee table... so I get a call from her crying and carrying on about how mean he is... even though he took her school supply shopping and told her he'd take her to the pool. And how it's nicer at dad's house cause he lets her do whatever she wants... on and on. When I told her that she shouldn't open gooey icky stuff and play with it, she then turned on me about how much I like him more than her and always back him up. Oy.... it gave me a headache. She's in the throws of hormones and power play. I think we need to go back to the therapist...

THEN my doctor called with the results of an MRI I had last week. I've got a herniated disc, annular ligament tears in my lower lumbar region, arthritis and degenerative disc disease in like 3 or 4 of the lumbar discs... I'm only 32. *sighs* He says there isn't much that can be done and he's sending me to a back clinic for specialized treatment.

So, I'm having a fabulous Monday. How's yours?

We woke up to no hot water. Had to call a repairman cos I couldn't get the pilot light lit. Seems there was a crack in the knob you turn. Why is everything made out of plastic these days?? That was 60 bucks out the door .

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Beautiful sunny warm day today, perfect for the beach and kayaking. Thunderstorms both Saturday and Sunday, but wife and I have to work.

Not so sure I hate Mondays, but that guy that invented a work schedule, who is that guy anyway?

Oh my God...sorry about your back. (F) Have you had the chance to read any info on your condition and what steps you can take, if any, to alleviate it?

As for your daughter having to deal with her stepfather's rules - I'd recommend all three of you sit down with paper and pencils, and come up with house rules that everyone can live with. I don't think it's fair to your daughter to have your husband come into the household with his own set of rules, particularly if they are different from what your daughter was used to before he came. Everyone needs to compromise, including your husband....which means everyone needs to be a bit flexible. Including your daughter in establishing the new rules will make her feel like her opinion matters and less resistant to the change. Your husband just needs to be patient with the bonding between him and your daughter as it may take years. If your insurance covers it, I'd recommend family counseling because even under the best of circumstances, step families have a lot of obstacles to overcome.

should have offered more alcohol .... :P

Hehhehehe, no doubt! Alcohol can certainly "grease" the wheels :) Course, drinking so early in the day might create some bad habits... hehheheh

Col. 'Bat' Guano,

Thank you for your kind words. I am looking into what I can do for my back. It's just a bit of a bummer. I'll have to order more pain pills is more likely to get me through the recovery period. It just means to bike riding, or hiking, or anything too strenuous, which such inactivity is really not good for my thighs :D

As far as on the home front, we all sat down and created a list of the "house rules" and we all signed them. Unfortunately, none of us thought about the icky gooey creations coming in. We have just moved into a new condo and the carpeting is all new, so I sound a bit like a broken record telling the children how "new house = new rules" nothing messy is to go in the living room or their bedrooms. They have an entire play and craft area in the garage, carpet, tv, table, etc for their "messy" activities. We have had her in counseling and our insurance does cover it. So I'll be setting up some one on one appointments for her with the counselor. We have some really good days and some really bad days and I know that sometimes she's using what is happening to vent her frustrations and her hormones. We just have to get through these difficult times.

I appreciate your thoughts and your wishes. :) I hope you have a lovely Monday!

Can I recommend aquafit classes to you whilst you recover. You can do a surprising amount with the water supporting you - and it's fun.

*I am not an aquafit teacher* :)

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

His halo got tarnished in Rome - something to do with new swim suits with super buoancy. He's still my hero though. :P

Did anyone see the synchro swimming? I can't decide if it's a sport or not but they are sure as hell athletic!

I thought he was sticking with his traditional suit? His coach is adamantly against suits that give any edge to the swimmer.

But a bit off topic.....would you let him teach you the back stroke?

He is, that's how he lost a few of his races (Losing races = tarnishment). His coach is ensuring these are banned on Jan 1st and not 'sometime in 2010' as was previously the case.

I don't need taught, I know how to do all the swimming strokes already ;)

What if he told you your stroke needs to improve?
