I wrote ASAP on my interview request sheet expecting that my interview would be about 30-40 day's at the soonest. Not so however, I'm in on the 25th of August. Very exciting but also lights a bonfire under my butt to tie up all these loose ends. From now on I'll think twice about the use of the term "ASAP".

I had to book my medical for the day after the interview I've read here many times that that's okay. Just wanting to confirm that it's okay and that I don't need to contact the consulate ahead of time and get special permission to do that.

Thanks for any answers!

Waiting to receive the visa or waiting at the consulate once I give them the medical results?

Waiting for the visa.

In theory they could take the results from you the next day and hand you the already prepared visa.

Normally if you have more info to submit, you do that then go away and they will mail it to you when they get around to it.

:ranting:

I'm in a bit of a pickle then, perhaps when I give them the regional mailer I can have it sent to my cousins house on the island and hope it only takes a few day's to get there.

Nope you do not need any permission to have your medical done after your interview. Thats what I did and worked out great for me! They will give you a letter of authorization to return to the consulate and they will mark on the letter that you are bringing medical results.

If your travel plans allow to do so stay the extra night so you can pick up your Visa on Thursday, if not then the consulate will accept an Xpresspost mailer as well when you drop off your medical results on Wednesday.

I have read of some people getting lucky and the consulate having their Visa ready for them on Wednesday when they returned with their medical, but again I wouldn't count on it.

You too! :dancing:

Here's confirmation from the consulate in case anyone cared about whether you could do the medical first and expect to be able to pick up your visa:

We can do your interview on 25th August, you will be required to bring the medical results on Wednesday, 26th August 2009 between 2:00 – 2:30 pm as results are given same day in the afternoon at 2:00 pm. Your visa will not be ready for pick up same day as we need two business days to process the application. If approved, you can either collect your visa on Friday or we can mail it to you.

Couldnt you reschedule your medical for an earlier time before the interview?? I have heard of cases where the consulate will accept you then request medical tho'.

Two business days? What the heck! Its supposed to be next day Visa pick-up! Unless they changed it? Maybe its just a disclaimer, mine was ready next day, maybe it depends on the case?

This is the response I got in May when I asked:

Generally, it takes one business day to process your approved visa. As a result, your visa may not be ready until Thursday at 2PM. You will have the option to pickup the visa in person at the Consulate or have it mail to you via pre-paid Xpresspost.

Medicals in Vancouver are only done on Wednesdays, if they have high demand they may do Thursdays, but generally once 1x a week.

I wouldn't have time to give my notices at work if I had booked the medical for next week.

Yes I think it's jsut a disclaimer the whole two day thing or maybe the person replying was just covering her/his butt because they didn't know for sure.

Either way I feel confident (unless they deny me or I fail the mecial) that I will be able to pick it up on either the Thursday or the Friday at the latest.

Woohoo! 14 days!

I don't think it is a disclaimer - getting the visa next day is not necessarily the norm - it does happen but no guarantees - as Flames always says, can't hurt to ask, all they can say is no!
