Hello,

I am getting ready to file. I'll either send the tax transcripts or my full return. If I send my full return does anyone know if I must send W2's with it? I may have lost some W2's.

Also, it'll be difficult coming up with the exact dates of travel for the past 5 years since my wife travelled frequently. and also the passport stamps are not always clear. Does anyone know if this has to be exact or the best way to find travel dates in the past when you don't keep airline ticket stubs?

Thanks..

We included copies of the returns without the W-2s and we were fine. Some IOs want the W-2s though, so if you can send transcripts, do it.

The dates of when your wife left the country and returned are very important because they can impact when she is actually eligible for citizenship. I wouldn't think you would want to guess on that. Perhaps she should list what she remmebers, but include a written explanation that states that she took additional international trips that she does not have information for. That would make it clear that she's not intending to hide anything.

Fortunately for us, we knew about this requirement from friends who had already filed, so we kept an Excel spreadsheet listing when we left, when we returned and the countries we visited.

For my wife, her frequent flier accounts had all the information we needed. Also, if you purchased your tickets online, try searching your email or even checking your purchase history on those websites to find the dates. If you purchased your tickets from a travel agent, call them up to ask if they keep records of your past purchases, they probably do.

Remember, trips across the border into Mexico or Canada lasting less than 24 hours don't need to be listed.

Good luck.

I'm still not confident I'll find the exact dates and length of the trips. Some trips were on other airlines where we didn't have frequent flier miles also. So do you think it will be okay to include some statement saying these dates are to the best of our knowledge? But some dates we are not sure of the exact number of days? This part of the application has me worried the most because I just didn't keep any records of all the places travelled to for vacations and when she returned home to visit her family. thanks for your help.

Looks like you have no choice. Just include what you know and add a statement or wait for the interview and she will be able to explain this to the immigration officer. They have all the dates of their computers.

She can also make an infopass appointment and they will look up the dates for you.

Good luck

I called USCIS recently about this and they told me that for cases like this you can use FOIA or freedom Of Information Act to get all the complete listing of the travel records. Here's the link: Freedom Of Information Act
