Hi, might not be the right spot to post this but just received noa2 and am starting work on the affadavit of support.

Where it asks you to list assets of stocks and bonds.. and value..

Do you list only what you have outside of IRA (individual retirement account) or do you list those as well in a separate listing?

If the sponsor qualifies based on current income then the asset section does not to be completed.

In my case I DO need to list all assets to make sure there's no doubt of ability to support as I am a university employee that does not work summer months. Therefor I do need to know if I can list IRA as well.

You can, but it may not qualify. Here are the asset guidelines from the I-864: Only assets that can be converted into cash within one year and without considerable hardship or financial loss to the owner may be included. The owner of the asset must include a description of the asset, proof of ownership, and the basis for the owner's claim of its net cash value.

An IRA is simply an investment vehicle that can contain most every form of investments, including stocks, bonds, cash, CD's, REITS, Etc., so the investment vehicle does not play into the equation. THe bottom line monetary value is what is being requested. I listed my IRA's value in the Affidavit of Support. Good luck to you.

I'm assuming you are an instructor if you don't work in the summer but are you not still paid an annual salary for the fiscal year or do you teach part time? Just curious as I work for a university too as a guidance counselor?
