I am an American Citizen living my husband in Egypt and in a couple months we will go to the American Embassy here in Egypt. We are going the DCF route. When we go in person to our first interview and we take the I-130 and other forms my question is should we still have a I-130 cover letter along with the I-130 form? Thanks

Have you established legal residency in Egypt? That must be established for you to file DCF.

No, a cover letter is not necessary for DCF in Cairo. Cover letters are probably useful when applications and packets are delivered to Embassies by third parties, however since DCF in Cairo is very much face-to-face (okay, with a window in between) it really won't serve a purpose.

Also, even though you're planning to go together, know that it will be your interview, not both of your interviews. This is a process, not one-stop-shopping.

Finally, don't go to great lengths putting together a package to present at the Embassy. They won't be interested in a full on celebration of love, like tabbed notebooks with a smatteering of lovey-dovey stickers and captioned photos such as "This is my habibi when he first wakes up. Isn't his messy hair the cutest?!?!?!?!?!?!?". What they will be interested in is you being prepared with what they need. Make three envelopes, one for original, official documents (the I-130, your marriage papers, its original translation, etc.), one for anything else you're taking that isn't included in the first envelope, and a third with copies of everything (yes, including photos), LABEL THE ENVELOPES and list, on the outside, exactly what is in each. Even though that appears one sided, keep in mind they have a job to do and it will be in everyone's best interest to make their job easier. Not only that, it will reduce you stress level because, as we all know, this is not for the weak.

Feel free to PM me if I can be of any help.
