Hi all :)

Sorry if someone has asked this... but I can't find a short, comprehensive version of what to do after I arrive in the US. I hope someone can shed some light on this. Will definitely appreciate any responses. Thank you :)

I would like to know what happens/what should I do after I arrive in the US... I will be arriving in the US on 20th November 2009. We're planning to get married early January, so about 1.5 months after me entering. We will be in NC, so I was wondering anyone has any idea how long it'll take us to get the marriage cert? Also, is there anything I could do before marriage? When do we file for AOS or SSN or anything like that? I'm very confused about how things go?

Can someone share their experience about what do they do after arriving in the US and then in between before marriage and after marriage? and how much would it cost? how long would it take? also, what about EAD?

Please help! Thank you so much! :)

The K-visa AOS guide I think will answer a lot of your questions.

Most people have advocated getting their SSN immediately or as soon as possible upon entering the US to use it for marriage. Some people have no problem getting in quickly, others do. Some people have problems getting their SSN after marriage and were told to wait for their green card. To be on the safe side, if you need a bank account, drivers license etc, anything that requires a SSN, get it ASAP.

As for the marriage cert. Some have said that letting the minister do it on his own usually results in it taking months to reach you. Some people have had success getting the marriage cert on the same day by taking it personally to their country clerk/recorder (not sure if this is the right department, basing this off memory). I would suggest opting to do it yourself initially if possible to avoid delays in filing AOS before your 90 days expires and you are out of status.
