I served 22 years in the Navy. I am now a civilian working for the Army. I think he made a better choice going Navy.

I have heard that navy is a very good choise. I don't know if they have ROTC in that college

You might want to research how joining the Army/Navy/Airforce could affect his Danish citizenship. I know that the Germans yank your German citizenship as soon as you join a foreign military, unless you have dual citizenship, so there might be a law on that on the Danish side as well.

You can join the military as an enlisted soldier with a green card, but you MUST be a US citizen (including naturalized) to be an officer. Army has the best college fund; Air Force and Navy the best standard of living. People join the Marines simply to be a Marine so they tend to offer less incentives (it also has the most difficult basic training). I went Army for the college fund, but if I could do it all over again I might go Air Force.

Can't forget about the Coast Guard nor the Boy Scouts of America. Been talk about only have one armed services, not really operating like a team, each has their own thing that over time is all blending together. First the Army Air Force, then that was separated in 1947 where the Air Force was supreme for delivering nuclear weapons of mass destruction, with missile delivery systems, then the Navy and the Army got into the act. Navy was the air protection for the Marines, but the Marines preferred to do that themselves as the Air Force was the air protection for the Army, but they also preferred to do that themselves, basically with attack helicopters. Each has it's own elite fighting forces, so do you send in the Rangers, the Green Berets, the Seals, or the Marines, use to be the Marines job for that kind of stuff.

Nuclear weapons were in, now it's back to so-called conventional warfare, Army is into Drones, don't need Air Force spy planes anymore. It's a mess as each service is fighting for bucks. Oh, and for the most part, the Commander-in-Chief is an idiot, was okay when they picked George Washington for that job, has been downhill ever since.

Well joint operations has become very common, but each has its own unique capabilities so I would personally not advocate having just one service. As for the Coast Guard that would be a great option as well & they have a very interesting mission. As for the Commander-in-Chief being an idiot I haven't been shy about voicing my opinions about how incompetent & arrogant (really bad combo btw) the Bush administration was, so we need to agree to disagree on that topic.

Can also base your selection on uniforms, Marines have the fanciest dress uniforms. Was reported on the news before 9/11, we have more generals and admirals then we did during WW II, and a world war it was, haven't heard anything after 9/11.

Regarding the uniform, if you want to pick up gals, better off wearing a leather vest with chopped off blue jeans, with tats, metal in your face, long hair, and a Harley. But can find some really nice woman abroad. Anyone here find a nice woman abroad besides me?

Yes I know what you are talking about. Denmark dosn't accept dual citizenship. So we really have something to think about here. Thank you for this information

not necessarily - a company grade article 15 can reduce someone in rank and it's not uncommon in the army.

Even though my brother became a medical doctor with the Army, suggest he look into the Navy for career opportunities, anything from shore patrol to nuclear physics.

Like me. So I concur. It's not easy but it's worth it.

I'll buy that. Single men in the military are at a big disavantage being posted where the male to female ratio is dismal. The same true to a lesser extent when I was in Germany. It's not a poor country so your military pay doesn't impress the chicks.

Air Force has a better quality of life than the other branches. The US Air Force is the only branch that gives university credit for their training programs. However the branch of service should be determined by what job or skill he wants to learn. If I could do it over I would have picked translator or medical equipment repair.

FYI

Service in Wartime

All immigrants who have served honorably on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces or as a member of the Selected Ready Reserve on or after September 11, 2001 are eligible to file for immediate citizenship under the special wartime provisions in Section 329 of the INA. This section also covers veterans of designated past wars and conflicts.

Service in Peacetime

Section 328 of the INA applies to all members of the U.S. Armed Forces or those already discharged from service. An individual may qualify for naturalization if he or she has:

Served honorably for at least one year.

Obtained lawful permanent resident status.

an application while still in the service or within six months of separation.

If memory serves me correct.. that seems inaccurate.

I served in Both the Marines and Air Guard and it seems training from both branches were applicable as course credits.

Anyone got an opinion/ experience?
