My husband hates pasta salad, I made this pasta salad one night, its a recipie my mother in NS gave to me, that we ate all the time there when i was younger. He actually really liked it. It makes quite a bit of pasta salad and it will last 2-3 days if kept in the fridge. Its a pasta salad to be served chilled.

pasta salad recipie

3 medium sliced tomatoes sliced and diced

1- english cucumber diced you don't peel it

1-bunch of green onion diced

1- green pepper cored and diced

2 cups cooked macaroni drained

mix all the veggie in the cooked macaroni when the mac is cooled, can rinse with cold water to speed up cooling process, then add one large bottle of catalina salad dressing mix alltogether if you don't find it enough sauce use one large and one small bottle of catalina dressing.

Wow that's a lot of dressing!!

This is one of my favorites: Everyone I have made it for loves it. The chicken is so tender and comes apart with a fork.

Crock Pot Chicken Fricassee:

4-6 chicken breasts

I pkg Pioneer brand brown gravy. This pkg makes 2 cups of gravy, if you can't find it use 1 or 2 pks of any other brown gravy mix to make 2 cups worth.

1 can of Campbells chicken and mushroom soup (cream of chicken and mushroom is one soup, not one can of mushroom and one can of cream of chicken)

1 to 3 TBSP Kitchen Bouquet (KB is usually found around the gravy mixes, it is a bottle of brown liquid that adds flavour and darkens gravy) I don't add very much because I like my gravy a little lighter. If you can't find this, not a big deal.

Spices- whatever you want, I usually add creole spice, pepper, lots of tarragon.

Mix the gravy in 2 cups hot water, mix in the soup and spices and add it with chicken to crock pot.

I find 5 hours on low is perfect for cooking time.

It sounds like a lot but when you actually use it, it covers the pasta salad really well, you can een substitute the regular kind of the low cal or the fat free, they have both options at bakers

I had to try the chocolate cake in a mug. Mine came out with a consistency more like a bread pudding then a cake, but it was really good. That was a pretty neat recipe.

Anyone have a good recipe for macaroni salad? We're hosting Sunday Football this weekend and I figured I could make that salad a day in advance to go with our hamburgers.

Thanks!

I make my stepmother’s pasta salad with shells. You could try it with macaroni as well.

Cooked shell pasta

A handful of chopped up sweet pickles

Cherry tomatoes

Chopped onion

2-3 chopped up hard boiled eggs

Crumbled feta

For the sauce: mix in some olive oil, vinegar, and Italian herbs (I use pesto instead)

Mix everything together and chill before serving. Apparently the sweet pickles in pasta salad is a common thing to do in Germany (my stepmother is German), and they’re really good in it. Sorry I don’t have any exact measurements; she just throws in a little bit of everything and doesn’t use recipes.

I haven't made this (yet), but I've never really gone wrong with recipes from AllRecipes.com that have a combination of high ratings + a lot of raters.

I just ate macaroni salad with chicken breast! lol

I use penne rigate. The ridges make the "sauce" cling to the pasta better. I cut up green, red, and yellow peppers (or whatever you have) and halved grape tomatoes. I also add a couple of chopped green onions. I then add Hellmans real mayo and salt and pepper to taste. You can also add a tin of chopped drained white chicken (from a tin), or shrimp or crab or whatever it is that you like. Yummy. :)

Need a recipe for something fairly easy to do but also inexpencive that will last more then a few days of freshness for a family of two.

Trying to find foods that will last longer that we can make but we are having a hard time doing it. Tight on the budget so need cheaper longer lasting things.

My husband only ever ate fast food before so hes no help and I only know stuff that will stay fresh for 2-3 days and we dont finish it in time, most gets thrown out.

the spring rolls I mentioned on the very first post is a good one. the recipe i posted makes 45-50 rolls. Just double the recipe and it will last you a while. It takes a long time to make but you'll be glad you have a quick & easy food to cook. I would freeze the rest of the ones I dont use. Dont forget to use wax paper in between so they dont stick together. Dont let them defrost when you want to cook them. the wraps get super soft and you'll have to take them apart and mold them into spring balls instead. lol. learned that the hard way. Also, store them in a bag that can be frozen - not the ziploc/glad tupperwares. learned that the hard way too. lol
