Hey there,

I had a question im a US citizen and am intreasted in sponsering my parents but its a bit complicated.

My parents got divorced a long time ago, my mom got married again but my dad is still single, now my question is

that can i sponser my dad and my mom and my step dad also?

Does anyone have any idea about such a case if its even possible or i will be only allowed to sponser my biological parents?

Please advise.

Thanks.

Did your new step-dad marry your mom before you turned 18?

If so, no issues sponsoring all of them.

But - if they re-married after you turned 18, you cannot sponsor the Step-dad.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Thanks for the reply, and the answere is yes my mom did re-marry before i was 18 so i hope thats good then.

I hope there is no clause that my step dad had to legally adopt me or something when he got married to my mom

cause that didnt happen.

From what I have read - as long as they married before 18, you can sponsor "step-parents", in addition to your bio parents.

Hi Bombay,

Do you know who TayRivers is?? She petitioned her parents and they were just approved for their IR5 visas.

From her parents' interview experience, it seems to me that she petitioned her biological mom and her step-dad.

You might want to ask her to double check!

Good luck!!! :)

Just for info....

You can file for a step-parent as long as the marriage between your parent and your step-paren took place before your 18th bithday. The step-parent does not need to have adopted you.

You can still file for your biological parent even if your other biological parent is re-married.
