LoL, it's funny to read about 2/3 of the posts in this thread made by people who only read the first 4 sentences in the OP. Some people need to stop being so fvcking lazy and read the entire post before deciding to be outraged.

Scandal is a hypocrite. For example, he has mentioned before that OT VJ is 'not the place for a serious discussion' yet 9 out of 10 times, he is the one instigating the satire. He is the one who refuses to discuss ideas with those who don't agree with him.

Furthermore, it is extremely common for the resident libs in the forum to shoot down anyone and everyone they disagree with. I'm not talking about logical discussion here. I am talking about insults and personal attacks. Dam straight that should be moderated. This is not a us vs them kind of forum. Nor do I believe ewok wants it that way.

You also have a case with some of these same members ridiculing other members throughout VJ. Or in other forums. Ofc ouse every single one of them to this day denies antagonizing, insulting, ridiculing or even following members they don't like for the sole reason of rebutting them. The second someone bites back at them and goes under the belt, they have a TOS violation. While the person who orchestrated this in the first place, is free to post.

I learned long ago that having a debate with many of the left here is an exercise in futility. Thats why I personally head straight for the sarcasm,ridicule and anyother fun thing I can think of calling them that illustrates they're foolishness.

piece about their understanding of patriotism.

I was posting long before that.

So as long as they write a lengthy piece on patriotism makes them american? If this person was secure in their beleifs why the lengthy piece? Trying to convince me or themselves?

The problem with the Commies for Christ banners (and the picture in the OP) aren't that they are disparaging to people's (Christian's) beliefs - its that the symbols of a very dark period of modern history that cost the lives of many millions of people are being used for comic relief.

To be fair, I really don't think that poster is viewed as 'comic relief' either to the the member with it in his sig or anyone else who holds that opinion.

Actually you just cornered yourself bud. This thread proves two things. First off it proves Danno correct and it also proves me previous statements right. In the past you have ridiculed me for apparently complaining for expressing my own personal views on OT, as now has scandal. Heck you even did it today.

What you have shown is that when one of your buds has a complaint, as does scandal, then this must be perfectly legitimate. Whereas, the second you see myself or anyone else make a point or in our opinion a valid complaint, then it's "the same tired old complaint about how "picked on" and "antagonised". BY you are surely one of the most dishonest people on these boards - you lay all the blame for bad behaviour on others, and not once (not once ever) do you reflect on your own behaviour or why it is that people react to you in the way that they do.

Specific disagreements aside - you have an incredibly abrasive way of relating to people, you clearly see nothing wrong with making sweeping stereotypical generalisations about entire groups of people (85% of Americans are stupid? #######! Who seriously says this!?) and this infuriating inability to comprehend when these arguments veer in the direction of racism and prejudice, as they often do.

The discussion was about how patriotism isn't fundamentally tied to physical symbols (like flags).

I don't have any 'bad behavior' so to speak. As scandal pointed out, this is a free speech country, therefore, discussions that would not be unacceptable (even illegal) in AUS are acceptable here. As Charles pointed out in another thread, free speech works both ways. The problem here is that you guys have a huge issue accepting differing views.

Am I judgmental? yes, I'll tell you that. but so are you. Only difference is that you do it on a personal level. You assume I must be wrong because you don't agree with me. Maybe the 85% is right, maybe it's wrong. You cannot shoot it down simply because you disagree with it. That was my own estimation. Some of the greatest breakthroughs originated as empirical observations - mere opinions. My comment on the country is based on the years I spent around the world as well as my upbringing in Australia. Things that are common sense over there are clearly not here. Like cell phone use while driving, which was banned 15 years ago there.

Another example, the president himself said that in certain cultures, rape is acceptable. Boy if I had said that a week earlier, you would have hung me out to dry and cried murder. I don't know what sort of a bubble you lived in but the world is a huge and diverse place. The assumption that we are all the culturally the same is absolutely wrong. This is the fundamental point we disagree on.

Lincoln was a liberal in many ways, besides being an abolitionist. The Democrats were the "conservatives" back then. Of course, today's labels made little sense back then. Different times, different issues. But, the Republicans were the new kids on the block, and Lincoln was the first to be elected from that party.

No one pre-60's was anything like a modern day liberal.

I don't like Lincoln anyway. I hate to even look at that guy. I am surround by civil war sites up here and sick to death of them. Civil wars are embarrassing . Not something you parade around. Now George W was a president. I enjoy visiting his house and looking into the mind and learning from such a pioneer. Different breed of yanks back then. They actually remind me a lot of modern Aussies; pioneers and go-getters.
