In Nov. 2009 we'll make our 1st trip back to the Philippines. Melanie has been in the USA since July 2008 has a Filipino passport that expires 2012(not machine readable) and a 10 year green card. Any suggestions on how to make our rentry into the USA trouble free? Thank you in advance.

04-01-2006 2nd trip to Mindanao and we both went to Bangkok Thailand(I proposed)

04-21-2006 Married in Mindanao, Philippines

11-01-2006 3rd trip-vacation together in Sagada,Philippines

04-21-2007 4th trip-Bukidnon,Philippines (celebrated our 1st year anniversary)

07-23-2007 Filed I-130

08-30-2007 5th trip-vacation in Tagaytag,Philippines

12-02-2007 6th trip-Manila

04-21-2008 7th trip-vacation in Camiguin,Philippines (celebrated our 2nd year anniversary)

06-23-2008 IR-1 Visa interview (339 days from filing)APPROVED

07-06-2008 8th trip Mindanao(going away party in Cagayan de Oro)

It is best to get her the new-style Philllipines passport with her married name. That way, there will be no hassles along the way. There is plenty of time to do this through one of the Philippines Consulates. A friend just went through this because his was also not machine-readable, just to be on the safe side when he returns home for a visit later this summer.

When you return Immigration will scan her green card, her info will pop up on the computer and they will take her picture. Then you will be on your way. As simple as that.

I am also planning to go visit Manila in 2010. I got me a machine readable passport already expiring in 2012 and my 2-year green card. I think I am good to go.

If you guys are staying more than 21 days be sure Philippine immigration stamps the Balikbayan visa in your PP. Should say it expires in one year.

Your wife will still get stuck for P200 PTA tax plus both of you will pay the P750 terminal fee when coming back.

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship
