Hi everyone! I'm a newbie (the American!), and am filing my I-130 this week! I'm spending all day today working on everything, and needed a break.

So here is the story of the Finn Man and me:

We met in February 1988 randomly at a youth hostel in Sydney, Australia. I was 23 and he was 24. We had a three-day romance until my friend (childhood friend I was traveling with) and I left for the rest of our Aussie trip. Both the Finn and I were fresh out of college, broke, and couldn't even afford to visit each other during that time. We wrote letters, but I ended up marrying someone else in 1990 and had my daughter in 1992. He had a long-term relationship with a girlfriend but never married.

We wrote letters (platonic-and yes, real letters! All before email) and sent Xmas cards from 1988 until 1998. We kept all our letters! Then we had no contact from 1998 until 2008. I had no idea where he was, if he was married, etc... I divorced in 2006. Fast-foward to 2008. My boyfriend at the time dumped me. I happened to go to dinner with my friend who I went to Australia with when I met the Finn Man in 1988. She brought her photo album with pictures of the Finn Man and me. I started thinking about him a lot and went home and "Googled' him. I found him on an Estonian website, but couldn't find a link in English to email him or anything! So I still had no way to contact him, but at least knew he was alive!

I played around with the website for two weeks and finally found a link in English for the webmaster. I emailed her, and she forwarded my email to the Finn Man. He emailed me immediately! We started emailing and calling each other. I went to visit him November 2008 (we are in our mid 40s and were both single when I found him), and it literally was love at first sight at the airport. We had spent a month getting to know each other again prior to that trip, so had no times of awkwardness or being uncomfortable. We got engaged on that trip!

I went back in February 2009, and he came to visit me in May 2009. We went to Helsinki, Finland in July 2009 for two weeks and got married!

So here we are...again...after 21 1/2 years of meeting randomly in Australia. We are completely head over heels in love and finally married to each other!!!!

And yes, this will be a movie someday...or you'll see us on Oprah. Long lost loves can find each other! Fate is amazing! Now I just have to get him here!!!!!

Our timeline:

2/88: We met in Sydney, Australia at a youth hostel! He's Finnish, I'm American-both were in our early 20s at the time and fresh out of college (so couldn't afford to visit each other's countries after that!). We had a three-day romance, then went our separate ways. He actually was going to Sydney a week later, but decided at the last minute to cut his trip short in another country and go early. Wow.

1988-1998: Wrote "snail mail" letters/sent Xmas cards, but lived our separate lives. I married someone else, divorced in 2006...he lived with someone for years and then that ended.

10/08: Because of a series of random life events, I Googled my Finn Man and found him (but no link to his email, and the website his name was on was in Estonian so I couldn't even read it!). It took me two weeks to find a link to someone else, who forwarded my email to him (we were both single at the time thankfully!!!!). The email went to his spam folder but he happened to check it that day and responded back to me immediately! This was after 10 years of no contact and almost 21 years of not seeing each other after we first met.

11/08-5/09: We traveled back and forth to visit each other. Love at first (second?) sight!

7/09: Married in Helsinki, Finland...after meeting randomly 21 1/2 years ago and finding each other again!!!!!

8/13/09: I-130 sent!!!!!!!!!

Rest is on my timeline!

Thanks for sharing your love story. The very best of wishes for a speedy journey!

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

What a wonderful love story! Congratulations and good luck on your visajourney.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

"Our Wedding Prayer"

Lord, help us to remember when we first met,and the strong love that grew between us.

To work the love into practical things so nothing can divide us

Grant us a Love that grows stronger with each passing year.

We ask for words both kind and loving

and for hearts always ready to ask forgiveness as well as to forgive.

Guide us to overcome every challenge

and keep our dreams pure to each other always.

Dear Lord,we put our marriage into Your hands.Amen

If your heart acquires strength, you will be able to remove blemishes from others without thinking evil of them.
