hello friends,

we recently had our i-129f approved (we are getting a fiance k1 visa) and now we have to deal with the embassy in london. i see that we have to fill out these forms (ds-230 part 1, ds-156, ds-157, ds-156k and the iv-15k) then send them to the immigrant visa unit in order to get our interview date.

my question is that on the ds-156k form it says that you need to attach things like the police certificate, birth certificate, evidence of financial support, etc.. to the form. this is confusing to me because on the page with the forms it says that you do not send any documents to the embassy and you need to bring them with you to the interview.

do i need to attach these things to the form and bring them to the interview or do i only need to bring the documents to the interview and the interviewer will attach the documents to the form on that day?

thanks for your help.

As Aniomaman said.

But part of me wanted to comply with their requirements. So I did send them a copy of each of the documents listed too.

DO NOT SEND ORIGINALS !!! you will need them for your interview.!

It didn't affect our application at all. And I think that request sheet that they are sending K1's is out of date.

Do either which makes you happiest. :D

London's website says do not mail the supporting documents.

http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/...processing.html

What is the second step?

Assemble all of the relevant documents required in support of your application and forward the document checklist, IV-15K, to the Immigrant Visa Unit. These documents must not be mailed to the Embassy. You will be required to furnish the original of all documents and one copy on the day of the formal visa interview and medical examination

The forms themselves may say something different, but those are used around the world and each Embassy has their own procedure of how they want to handle collecting supporting documents and interview scheduling.

I vote:

1. Mail the DS forms along with the checklist. And be sure and read the Embassy website about those checklist documents where they explain them. Take the right kind of birth certificate. Get the right police certificate from as many countries as required. Get the proper documentation to take a child out of the UK. etc etc

2. Take the items on the checklist to the interview. Rule of thumb: If you want a document back, then take a photocopy of it they can put in your file after verifying the original. That would be birth certificate, police certificate, divorce decree, your tax return if you can't easily print another one off TurboTax for AOS. Just ask yourself, "do I want this original back?" Example--don't give up the only copy you have of a co-sponsor's tax return because you can use it again for AOS without making them give you another (unless you wait until next April to file AOS).

Good luck!!

Hey,

Rather than start a new topic I'll ask here.

So I've completed the forms DS-230 Part 1, DS-156 (x2), DS-157 (x2) and DS-156K. The instruction on the letter I received said do not send any documents until requested to do so, but the website link (http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html) in the letter says they need to be sent in step 1.

Step 2 is to complete the checklist to say that you have all the documentation that you need to collect, then send the checklist with a covering letter and the date of the medical.

Step 3 tells me to book a medical.

So, do I send all the DS forms off as soon as I've completed them, then complete the checklist and send that off with the covering letter and medical exam date?

Do I just book the medical exam now or do I have to wait for something? It's a bit confusing as the website tells me I need to tell them the date of the medical before I've actually booked it, and gives no explanation of when to book it.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

So at the moment I'm assuming I do the following:

1 - Complete all the DS forms and mail them off

2 - Book a medical

3 - Complete and return the DS-2001 checklist

Is this correct?

thanks very much

01/06/11 - I-129F sent

07/06/11 - NOA1

09/06/11 - Touched

17/10/11 - NOA2 Approved! (132 days from NOA1)

10/01/11 - Medical - PASSED!

03/02/12 - Interview! - APPROVED!

07/03/12 - POE - 15mins and through!

19/05/12 - Married!

This is a very old thread you've picked up.

1 - Complete all the DS forms and mail them off.

Yes, you could do that as soon as London notified you they have your file from NVC, like 2 weeks ago.

2 - Book a medical

Yes ASAP and go to it because you won't get an interview until the results reach the embassy. Note: Must take your police certificate to the medical.

3 - Complete and return the DS-2001 checklist

As soon as you have all the documents in hand for the interview like the birth certificate, police report, I-134 and proofs of income, etc. It's the way you say "I'm ready for the interview because I've got all the documents and I've been to the medical" (or at least have it scheduled).
