A child is a major commitment and should be planned for. It is unfair of one party to expect to surprise the other with a pregnancy when the other has expressed an opposite position. There are effective ways not to get pregnant and they should be followed until the couple agrees it is the right time. If the couple can't agree on having children they should consider ending the relationship. Many abused children started off as surprises for their parents. At this point there are abortion and adoption as options.

Wish life was this simple. He had a choice before - NOT TO GET HER PREGNANT. Now he only has 1 option - Man up to it and be a good father to their child.

While I do agree with you lets for the sake of argument ask:

What if these two people agreed "no kids" (which it sounds like they did)

And Hubby took wife to doctor to get pills.

And wife decided or forgot to not take pills.

Her failure to keep the agreement places the weight of this on her.

If she kept her agreement and somehow still wound up Pregnant that is a "nuther" story altogether, in this case

she has nothing to "explain or accept blame".

To blame the guy... because he had sex with his wife is a rational I fail to follow.

One would assume they engaged in sex based on the trust he had in his wife that she was using the pills.

Are we saying the guy was foolish to believe or trust his wife?

I would put responsibility on the guy.... just not equally if they had an agreement and he encouraged her birth control.

At the end of the day, they are married and this is certainly not a "deal-breaker" even if he did not want kids.

Pleasant Day Everyone!

This is my friends problem, She was pregnant and her husband didnt like it, She knew even before that he doesnt want to have anoter child, because he already had child to previous relationship.and besides my friend said that her husband is in late mid 50's so its kind a awkward for him to see a little kid around him..They have an argument that if she want to get pregnant she should divorced him and find another man. She just got her two year conditional green card. Her husband didnt know that she is pregnant yet. She didnt get pregnant on purpose, She plan to go back to her country if her husband got pissed at her being pregnant.. Any advice?..

WOW! why didn't he get a vasectomy? and she does not have to go home and if he doesn't like it and he wants a divorce there is this little thing called CHILD SUPPORT.

The husband should have considered marrying a woman passed her child birthing years but nooooo.

People who want kids shouldn't marry someone who doesn't. There's no compromise like having a half a kid. It's a fundemental decision.
