Rescheduling Interview with Info-pass Appt?

My husband finally got his interview letter today (hooray!). Unfortunately the interview is scheduled 09/10/09, two days after he has back surgery, which means he probably can't make it on that date. We are still trying to figure out if it may be possible for him to reschedule surgery or hobble in there without rescheduling (anyone have any idea how bad off someone is two days after a discectomy/laminotomy procedure?).

In addition, we are not sure how long the recovery period will be in order to reschedule, and I (USC wife) am leaving the country in November for 9 months on a Fulbright fellowship (husband will join me for a few months), and would like to make sure that this is all settled before then. Anyways, our question is, is there any way to possibly get the interview rescheduled BEFORE his surgery?

Can anyone think of how we could even bring up this question with USCIS? Do you think an Info-Pass appt could do us any good? Is there any way to call the local (Tampa) office to ask this?

Thanks in advance for any advice!!!
