What would you do? Where would you go?

(don't worry - paradox is suspended for this thought exercise)

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Any historical parameters? I could say something like going back and offing Hitler... but there could be a case made against such a trip due to the possible repercussions it would have on US power worldwide.

Personally I would do something like is seen in a book I read a few years ago by Orson Scott Card (Pastwatch: The Redemption of Christopher Columbus).

I think I might go back and teach science and engineering.

Picking a time would be tricky...where are they going to accept an independent young woman teaching science without flaying her for heresy (Edit: Sorry, probably blasphemy, huh)?? :D

But just imagine how much further along we'd be now if we started hundreds (or thousands?) of years earlier?!

Or convince people to have taken Pythagoras... or more so... Euclid... more seriously back in the day. Oh well.

It take more than single advanced person to do much. As you well know, science and technology is built upon previous discoveries and a community advanced enough to crank out things that speed development.

Consider the Twlight Zone episode where a guy goes back in time and buys property with lots of oil below. Unfortunately, there's no drilling technology capable of drilling that far down at the time.

That's why we're talking about convincing more than one person. Think about the power of the teachings we 'rediscovered' with Pythagorean and Euclidian mathematics. Much of their contributions were simply ignored- different from not being prepared to apply them.

Random thoughts...

Couple of financial-minded thoughts:

  • Google Stock (late 80's)
  • Mircosoft (also 80's)
  • Malibu property (70's)

Historical

  • Warn Von Stauffenberg about the table in the meeting room perhaps..
  • Warn JFK
  • Check out what really happened at Roswell

The Redemption of Christopher Columbus

I would make sure he wasn't redeemable.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I think you'd enjoy the novel. If only it could be possible without the causality clause...

Anyway... right now I wish I could go back a few months and fix a few technical issues with a virus I'm using. I have microscope time in a few minutes and I suspect the issue is slowly resolving itself... but at expense of several months of repetitive experimentation. :(

The original question seemed to be aimed at each person as an individual.

I thought their mathematics weren't ignored as the Romans knew about them and so did the Arabs later.
