Hey Paris...

I don't have any info about that K3 stuff... BUT, you realize that the NVC flies by so super fast -- since you're so prepared, you could be done really quick, no?

Just asking and how long does it take to process a K3 anyway?

Good luck, eh/

congratulations!!!

For the K3, the NVC will be forwarding your approved petition to the consulate where your husband's interview will take place. Each consulate varies, but the general scheme of things is: Consulate gets petition. Consulate contacts the beneficiary with instructions on what to submit. Look at the K3 guide and it will tell you which forms to fill out. Each consulate is different. Make sure to follow their directions (even if it's different than here). Your husband will also have to do the medical (they will tell him which docs are approved). Usually once the papers are returned to them, and everything is in order, they will schedule an interview for him. Some consulates will schedule the interview even before the papers are submitted. Again, each one varies.

Good luck! So happy for you!

The next thing to do is wait about a week or two and start calling the NVC daily to get your consulate case number. You will need to speak with an CSR. The best time to call is right as they open or about 15 minutes to closing time.

Next visit the USEP website for directions on the K3 process: http://france.usembassy.gov/

I would also suggest reading posts in the Europe regional forum such as this post: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=211309

Congratulations!!

Unless you have compelling reasons, I strongly advise going with the immigrant visa as opposed to the K-3. We went with the K-3, but what a pain it has been on this side of the ocean. There are boatloads of paperwork, not to mention the time, extra expense. and inconveniences. In our state she had to wait for an EAD in order to get a driver's license, work and straighten out social security. She's been to two more bio appointments, and still has the AOS interview, which will be 300 miles from what they call home.

For us there was one, and perhaps two advantages of the K-3: 1) He is now able to sponsor her on his own without co-sponsors (he was previously a college student). That is more of a big deal to us as parents than it is to him. 2) Hopefully she'll get the 10 year green card and can avoid removal of conditions.

I totally agree. Even though it took a couple extra months, it was worth to have my wife come here with a 10 year green card and be done with it all.

(I'm going for the IR-1 and blowing off the K-3. Even if it takes an extra couple months, it's worth it to not have to deal with USCIS again)

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Welcome to the USA!!!

I know, but we have a big time issue, Must interview and visa in hand by Nov. 6th, otherwise would of loved to chase the CR-1. Thanks guys for all your input and support.

Paris could you pursuit both? I did my CR1 at NVC and let the k3 get the interview first. then I asked to change the interview to CR1 instead but surprisingly my CR1 got interview date 10 days before the k3. if you work fast at NVCk you will get an interview at the same month you were going to get your k3. think about it! NVC is not hard i did it in 15 days counting holidays and weekends. and my husband got IR1 :)

Well, I think when we get our case numbers, I will truly decide. I truly want the CR-1 visa, but there is a big time restraint. He may have to go to Algeria for interview, and I dont know if I will able to attend, since Algeria requires a visitors visa, UGH!!! We will see.
