I would nurse or give expressed milk if the baby needed it and if the mom agreed or asked me to (if the mom was around). If I adopted a child and could lactate, I would do it. Neither scenario seems strange to me. Hubby says it's pretty normal in Morocco; the woman can be considered like family to the baby afterward.

Hi Everyone (especially to all you vj moms!),

What an interesting poll question/message thread, indeed..lol..how this ended up on an immigration forum..I don't know..but oh well, it's an off-topic discussion....

My answer to this poll: "No", I would not breastfeed another child.

I have nothing against breastfeeding, and am in fact breasfeeding my own newborn baby son (lol..heck, I'm doing that as I'm typing..hence the typos...), and see many benefits to breastfeeding. However, I also see breastfeeding as a bonding time between one's mother and child only, and don't think that any other child can have this special bond. Lol...my breasts are for my son only...sorry....

I do though, have extra breastmilk, and am more than willing to "share" with a child that is need, for example, in an emergency distaster situation, as someone else mentioned. I would "share' by pumping the milk out in a bottle and feeding that other child with that. I pump out the milk...the child feeds from the milk and is fed and happy...which makes me happy....Works out well here.

Speaking of breastfeeding: How many of you are breasteeding and/or have breastfed your child? How have your experiences been with such? How have you dealt with breastfeeding in public? How do you feel about others breastfeeding?

On a somewhat related odd note: Can one breastfeed (discretely, of course) at a USCIS office? Seriously...I have to face this issue soon, as I have to be at a USCIS office for my biometrics, interview, and oath ceremony, and have to do such then. I have no choice and have to bring my son with me, and it will be quite a long distance to travel there as well...What should I do about feeding (and diaper changes) there...? :help: Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions, etc. would be appreciated here (or pm me instead) too. Thanks in advance.

YES I did breastfeed my son.And I have to say I hated it.I really wasn't comfortable with. It.I had LOTS of milk and it was extremly difficult for my son to get anything out,so most of the time I had to pump some (at the top of it I had 1.7 LITERS of milk a day) and put him on afterwards so he could actually drink. The only reasons I did it at all were because IT IS the best thing for the child, makes the Uterus go back to it's normal size faster AND you lose the prego extra pounds much faster.I was back to my normal weight of 150 pounds (from 199 the day he was born) in 5 weeks.

Happy to say, I breastfed my son for a year when he was a baby. As for the poll, I would certainly pump my milk for a baby in need and if I couldn't pump, then certainly I would breastfeed it.

I don't know how common it is now a days, but back in the day people used to have "wet nurses" who would breastfeed other peoples children. Do they still have people that do that??
