The boy and I probably spend around $100 a month between the two of us. We've considered getting a plan for cheap calls to Canada, but he travels a lot with work so he's stuck with the phonecards.

Too dang much. Usually I spend around $250.00-$300.00. Last month it was only $150.00. Phone lines in Egypt have been bad. :(

Who is in Egypt? If you're interested, I could help you reduce that amount significantly.

Hi everyone,

Since it looks like there is not much action in terms of NOA2 for those of us at CSC I wanted to post a general question to all: How much do you spend on phone bills per month? I sometimes think that I am overdoing it, but then if I don't talk to my fiancée in Nicaragua then we don't have much of a relationship do we? What a horrible catch 22!!! It got so bad for me that I decided to get Voice over internet protocol (VOIP). To those of you who don't that is basically using your regular phone but connecting through the internet. It does save me money (theoretically), but because the per minute price is so much lower I talk for longer periods of time and in the end I end up spending aobut $400 per month. :P Anyone else in the same boat.

Oh and by the way I am calling her cell phone and she can't really call me because it is too costly for her. There are about 2 or 3 phone companies down there and, obviously, with less competition they can charge anything they want.

I pay $50 per month total. That includes my local service and unlimited international calling. I use a service similar to Vonage, but I use this one because of the flat rate. Last month we talked for over 1800 minutes. It has saved me a bundle, plus we are able to talk whenever we want!

We used to spend up to a hundred bucks a week but John found a cheaper phonecard at phonecards.com and we've been using it ever since... it's ten or twenty dollars for the card and they last forever because it's only a cent and a little bit per minute. Not to mention they have local access numbers in the US so that doesn't cost anything either...

Now I'm only calling home one night a week so the phonecard lasts over a month... we bought a twenty dollar card in May and it's still got four bucks left on it. :)

How can you turn an international call to a local call?

Simply by getting them a local phone number! It would be just as if he/she is right next door.

If anyone would like to learn how, feel free to email me: afdomaoan@aol.com
