If we don't have the same language, how can we prove the ability to communicate?

I'm sure this has not prevented people from receiving a visa. But I would like to know how this was overcome. Did you bring in a ream of emails with all your translation work? Show the translator software?

My wife is going to go to her interview soon and it will have to be in Chinese. So the VO is gonna know that she can not speak English. But I would like to know how this language barrier issue is overcome at the interview.

OR

If this was a reason for other than Pink how did you prove the ability to communicate?

thanks for any input!!!

So you mean you translate your emails back and forth?

Neither one of you understands each others spoken language? even a little?

Only reason I bring this up is because from all the posts I see from China - very tough embassy...

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

There have been denials at HCMC (Vietnam) for this very reason. No evidence of common language can be a big hurdle.

My wife speaks English very well but asked for her interview in Russian (she was asked, in Russian, which language she preferred) so as to be sure not to make mistakes. She never even had a question asked of any sort. But that doesn't answer your question.

So how DO you communicate? Just tell them if asked.

I send her to school for English and I have a little bit of knowledge from a language institute. Also I study the language on my own and we each have translators. I know they can not know my speaking ability.

But how to prove any ability and what is an acceptable ability?

I am nowhere near fluent, but I can attempt to speak. So unless a person is fluent, is that the end?
