Joke of the day:

Sunday morning in Bronx, New York. The church is packed and the devil decides to pay a visit.

The doors burst open; a black cloud rolls in with the devil in its midst. People jump out of the pews and run outdoors, screaming - all except for two people. One is the Pastor, the other is a Jamaican.

Satan is a bit perplexed. He points to the Pastor and says, "You! I can understand why you didn't run away, you are in your Lord's house, you preach against me everyday and you aren't afraid of me. But YOU (points to the Jamaican), why didn't you run out scared like everyone else?"

The Jamaican crosses one leg over the other and replies, "See one, see de other! I been married to you sister for 36 years.

SUS THIS IS FUNNY

I put my reply in the wrong spot....

Now here I'm closed minded. I met one black catholic person and was shocked. I never knew blacks praticed the catholic religon.

Me personally I think it’s easier to celebrate ur anniversary alone than Xmas. To me Xmas is one of the hardest holidays and its especially not special if your by your self. Everyone will be singing tis the season to be jolly and you'll be like Bahumbug  !!

Not my fave holiday at all. During my last assignment at work, we needed people supporting servers 24x7... I used to volunteer to be on-call for Christmas (I got extra days off!). I don't like the gift exchange process.

Also, my grandparents on my mother's side are/were Catholic. My mother & her 6 bros/sis grew up Catholic. It was big in New Orleans back in the day.

I am sending Tierra to Bible Camp this week. I was so happy to see all the brown kids that were there monday morning. I wish there were more integrated churches here. Tierra's father sang in the church choir down in MD, had a CD released and everything... I can't find a church ANYWhere in Maine that has a kids choir. I hate to say it but "white" church is boring.. I actually enjoyed going to church with Tierra's dad. I was the only white person there and NEVER felt out of place.

I'm with you, most of the churches I've been raised with have been BORING! The songs are boring & it all seems pretty stiff even though the people are nice. Lehi thought the worship was boring when we went with my parents to their church when he first got here BUT, he loved how short the service was! Start at 10:30 & done at noon! He's willing to go any time since it's so short!:lol:

now i do think that is dependent upon denomination.. cuz there are some very exciting white pastors but forgive me if i offend, they are not usually baptist/protestant/methodist. not USUALLY

omg.. my ex was methodist and the church was ALL black... i only went that ONE TIME..

different strokes for different folks, if he wanted to keep going he could have LOL.. i gotta have some stomping and clapping in my life sorry..

And shouting and screaming and rolling on the ground. U told me you act a fool at church. I must say when the holy spirit hits you it hits you but when I see people running up and down the isle I do look at them like

well dang.. i don't know what was wrong w/ this methodist church, guess the ppl was too old?? they didn't even have a band????????????? how can i praise the lord w/ no music LOL

hehehehe Quans, I'm Methodist and the church we attend is majority white and very old and typically lasts for about an hour. Ken cyan't tekkit! He says the same thing..."Dem don't even have a likkle band fi liven yuh vibes!!" He's SDA so a). he used to going to church on Saturday, b ) . his church is usually all day and c). Everyone brings their tamborine or sittin fi bang to invoke the spirit!!

So I usually end up going to church by myself...although he is open to looking for a new church that we both feel comfortable attending.

Lawd....I'm like Ken...I need some music to at least break up the talking.

Even the one hour church had a band with drums and an electric guitar...it was cool.

My pastor can get into a screaming match ...and he always says..Sit down please ...when people stand up...but no body sits down...and he beggs please sit down i gotta finish and no one still sits down. I think it's just part of the ..people showing that are in to what he is say...

I'm usually sitting down anyways..cause my feet be hurting from shoes..so he don't have to tell me but once....my husband loves our church. I wanted to visit others but he claim this as his church..so I got it down on the first try.

:rofl: What us women won't do to be cute!!!

Wow the pastor tells people to sit down? I never thought they did that. Well Quana can't go to that church.

Ok VJers.. I have a question that has been lurking on my mind (hope it hasn't been asked and if it has, please lead me to the page):

How hard would you think it would be or has it been for your SO to get accustomed to living in a town/city that is predominantly white? I ask this because I was talking w/ my hubby about living in such an area and he states that he doesn't know if he could. Now he did say that since he loved me, he would live there, but he strongly thinks he'd try to convince me to move. It is a culture shock for them to move to another country in itself, but to also move to where there are very very few minorities. Have any of you experienced such a thing??

*sidenote:

I am in no way, shape or form racist and I do not ask this to hurt feelings or cause drama. Just a curious mind is all I have,

Girl i dont know cause > i love in a community where on my block im the only white face ...im mean there are others but not many and they live at the other end of the complex .

I'm glad I don't have a fancy wedding ring. Already my band is scratched up everywhere & it hasn't even been two weeks! If it was something super fancy, I'm sure I'd be stressing on it but I'm cool with my titanium band getting scuff marks.

Sus - I need your help! Louis and I's 1 year anniversary is this weekend. We were going to see Gregory Isaacs Saturday night and he cancelled the rest of tour.. guess he is pretty sick! What are we going to do? YOu always know what's going on everywhere??

I think we are going to head to the Jamaican Jerk Center in Cape Neddick... Saturday afternoon. I beleive Fitzie Niceness is playing. Do you know him? Need something to do Saturday night!!

Well I don’t know about your hubby but I for one live in a predominately white city all my life and I am looking for the day to move to a city that is more diverse. Atlanta would be my dream place to live. I love it down there because to me it’s evenly populated or AA tips the scale. It s was so nice being in a city where AA people were doing great. Here in my city it’s shame but to find majority of AA you find them in he rougher parts of the town where public housing is more popular. When you go out in our suburbs where the nicer houses and cars are its mainly all white and if you are AA and move out there you get into big drama. T o me my city is still quite racist. When I went to ATL I was in culture shock seeing AA people driving fancy cars and living in fancy homes. It was so uplifting. My city is currently trying to think of ways to increase the AA population because most of them are moving to other cities that are more diverse.

I fell in love with JA because it s mainly all black I love it so like you said for him to move here and now you want to seclude him man oh man I think that is asking a bit much but in the end you have to do what you have to do.

Hey Sus what kind of law office do you work for?

DaDa - I was reading this article how only 5% of churches are racially integrated.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/wayoflife/0...days/index.html

Yardies - What do you think? Is this wrong? Right? Okay?

wow that was interesting. At my church i am the only white person . however they decision to join my church had come after visiting many and i in the end church i felt comfortable in .

The church I go to is mixed. The first time I went, we sang Bob Marley's "One Love". I knew that was the church for me.
