I am sending Tierra to Bible Camp this week. I was so happy to see all the brown kids that were there monday morning. I wish there were more integrated churches here. Tierra's father sang in the church choir down in MD, had a CD released and everything... I can't find a church ANYWhere in Maine that has a kids choir. I hate to say it but "white" church is boring.. I actually enjoyed going to church with Tierra's dad. I was the only white person there and NEVER felt out of place.

I'm with you, most of the churches I've been raised with have been BORING! The songs are boring & it all seems pretty stiff even though the people are nice. Lehi thought the worship was boring when we went with my parents to their church when he first got here BUT, he loved how short the service was! Start at 10:30 & done at noon! He's willing to go any time since it's so short!:lol:

DaDa - I was reading this article how only 5% of churches are racially integrated.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/wayoflife/0...days/index.html

Yardies - What do you think? Is this wrong? Right? Okay?

kk.. i LOVE LOVE my new church.. it is half black, half white, and a few hispanics.. I have NEVER been a member of a church w/ such diversity and i am soooo proud.. i feel like this is the way it should be.

i can't wait to join next mnth..

In my opinion, I don't see it has people going because it's a white or black or hispanic church...rather the type of religon (bapitist, etc) it's more of a cultural thing.

Ok VJers.. I have a question that has been lurking on my mind (hope it hasn't been asked and if it has, please lead me to the page):

How hard would you think it would be or has it been for your SO to get accustomed to living in a town/city that is predominantly white? I ask this because I was talking w/ my hubby about living in such an area and he states that he doesn't know if he could. Now he did say that since he loved me, he would live there, but he strongly thinks he'd try to convince me to move. It is a culture shock for them to move to another country in itself, but to also move to where there are very very few minorities. Have any of you experienced such a thing??

*sidenote:

I am in no way, shape or form racist and I do not ask this to hurt feelings or cause drama. Just a curious mind is all I have,

Well I don’t know about your hubby but I for one live in a predominately white city all my life and I am looking for the day to move to a city that is more diverse. Atlanta would be my dream place to live. I love it down there because to me it’s evenly populated or AA tips the scale. It s was so nice being in a city where AA people were doing great. Here in my city it’s shame but to find majority of AA you find them in he rougher parts of the town where public housing is more popular. When you go out in our suburbs where the nicer houses and cars are its mainly all white and if you are AA and move out there you get into big drama. T o me my city is still quite racist. When I went to ATL I was in culture shock seeing AA people driving fancy cars and living in fancy homes. It was so uplifting. My city is currently trying to think of ways to increase the AA population because most of them are moving to other cities that are more diverse.

I fell in love with JA because it s mainly all black I love it so like you said for him to move here and now you want to seclude him man oh man I think that is asking a bit much but in the end you have to do what you have to do.

Hey Sus what kind of law office do you work for?

I lived in the worse "white" section of Philadelphia - Kensington. At one point my mom was the only black on her block. The neighbors loved her. As soon as this white woman moved in and was dating black men, they started writing racial remarks all over her front door! Now its become a mixed community but if you can live there you can live anywhere. On my block the "white" prostitutes would be with their "Johns" in the alley 2 doors over shootin up. A white man got shoot one door down from my door. I saw them bagging him. I now live 10 minute from Philadelphia Int'l airport in a mixed neighborhood. Growing up, I lived in North Philly, mixed neighborhood. I am used to being around everyone and funny thing is most of my friends are in mixed marriages/relationships themselves. Very diverse person here.

You know it really came down to me not really knowing how to relate. We were culturely different and not just by our skin tones. For an example, as teenagers we tend to like music...well the talk was Britney Spears this and Britney Spears that...and I was like..95 South Boyz and Mase and Puff Daddy. I wasn't mean to anyone and they weren't mean to me.

But I see my question was taken out of your response. I was wondering why you think they said hi to him and not you. Was it make him "feel" comfortable?

Ok, that makes sense.

Missed your question...I think they were just going out of their way to be friendly. These were strangers on the street..not people I knew.

I do think sometimes people say hello to Louis cause they catch themselves staring and have to say something!

Yes!! My kids love the "in & out" too. I flip flop between thinking church is boring or serene. My days are spent running crazy, nice to have that hour of "peace" once a week.

shoot that's not short. One hour on the dot it short...kikiki

Husband and I went to church with his sister when we visited Atlanta last year. The church is non denomination and multicultural..no majority there. I really liked the environment..and the fact that it starte dat 10 and the pastor was apologizing for going over 5 minuts to 11:05. I said to myself...shoot..I could totally get used to only one hour of church. Then his sister says, they have bible study from 8:30 to 10....

now i do think that is dependent upon denomination.. cuz there are some very exciting white pastors but forgive me if i offend, they are not usually baptist/protestant/methodist. not USUALLY

omg.. my ex was methodist and the church was ALL black... i only went that ONE TIME..

different strokes for different folks, if he wanted to keep going he could have LOL.. i gotta have some stomping and clapping in my life sorry..
