Ok VJers.. I have a question that has been lurking on my mind (hope it hasn't been asked and if it has, please lead me to the page):

How hard would you think it would be or has it been for your SO to get accustomed to living in a town/city that is predominantly white? I ask this because I was talking w/ my hubby about living in such an area and he states that he doesn't know if he could. Now he did say that since he loved me, he would live there, but he strongly thinks he'd try to convince me to move. It is a culture shock for them to move to another country in itself, but to also move to where there are very very few minorities. Have any of you experienced such a thing??

*sidenote:

I am in no way, shape or form racist and I do not ask this to hurt feelings or cause drama. Just a curious mind is all I have,

well.. personally.. i would not seek to live in that neighborhood either, i don't like too much of any one kind of ppl all around me.. LOL.. so i wouldn't even suggest roger do it.. altho, it probably wouldn't matter anyway, i am very anitsocial, never really fellowshipped w/ my neighbors

I lived in DC/MD/VA area for almost 10 years. I loved it! I loved all the people and all the culture etc... in every neighborhood I lived in I was the only white person.

The thing is I am from Maine, a pretty "white" state. When I needed my family and moved home, it didnt matter where I lived, it was going to be a white neighborhood. Only in recent years has it become more diverse, which is wonderful.

But I do not choose to live in a "white neghborhood" ... in fact I didnt even choose where I live now. My Aunt and Mom moved me in here when I was in St Lucia.

I thought about moving to Portland where it is more diverse, but the school system in the town I live now is the best in the state, so that made me change my mind. I live only 15 minutes from Portland so we shop there, eat there, go out there.. just live in the 'burbs.

learn from my mistakes ladies!

ugh

what a pain

we were given the run around by the embassy and DHL- go figga

DHL was saying a variety of things:

*the passport/visa never left the embasssy,

*also saying it was 'misplaced' in main DHL distrubition center in kingston 5,

*then saying it was 'on hold' at the embassy

*also saying it was in transit to montego bay

*DHL employee: "hmmmmmm, that's weird, i've never seen a document put on hold except when waiting to clear customs"

the Embassy was saying:

*a visa has not been issued- you will be contacted with further info

*visa has been issued, but placed on hold- you will be contacted with further info

damion finally got a call on saturday afternoon around 3 o'clock (3 days ago) saying:

'you need to come to kingston this monday before 10 am to get your fingerprints retaken' gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

so he went to kingston yesterday from mobay and had his fingerprints retaken for 85$(USD), and now their 'mixup' is fixed i suppose

i was stupid in thinking that a month from the interview would be enough time to get the visa in his hands..... so now he is coming at a later date.

i learned my lesson~ never make plane reservation until visa is in hand

i knew this, so i cant be so upset with anybody but myself

oh well, it will only be 150$ to change the ticket

(i mean what 150$ more when we have invested this much already? LOL  )

Y'ALL HAVE A WONDERFUL, PRODUCTIVE, AND EASY DAY!

Justucia I am so sorry this, I am so glad its straightened out now! Sending Positive Vibes your way, your SO soon come! (F)

CONGRATS QUANA on your nuptials...so excited for you...congrats my2 on your NOA2, JQ on hubby arrival and Roxice on soon hubby arrival...also HAPPY BDAY Dillon!!!

In regards to Mrs.Buggy question...its funny cause the other day hubby and i were discussing if we decided to move where would we like to live...and hubby actually suggested to live in a predominately white neighborhood...

where we live now is mostly black and hispanics...and we live around a lot of carribean folks, mainly trinidadian and jamaicans...when he describes our neighborhood to his friends from back home he will say its like a mini kingston...and that is because of the people we know...they forever have war stories and since hubby has been here is saw one of my friends..someone he hung out with a few times get killed and he was hubby's age...he went to the funeral...

so even though at first he liked it over here cause he was around his "people" he doesn't like it now...he says he wants a place were he can live and rest his head not worrying about certain things and when he feels like going out or partying he will just visit the old neighborhood....i don't really care because i'm like Quana very anti-social...i will say hi and goodmorning but will keep it moving after that....

I guess hubby has a prejudice mind thinking that living around minorities is bad while living with only whites is good...and i told him that its not always the case and our area is actually pretty good...we just know certain things that go around because of the crowd we keep...we are hardly on the news or anything like that... ....Well i remember one time our area were on the news...a girl in her 20s and her 5 year old daughter was murdered by her cousin...her cousin was mentally ill and a crack head...he killed them because he got into an argument with the girl and she spit in his drink...that made him see red...that was all over the news because at first the cousin told the police it was the baby father but the building had survelliance and they found out it was lie and caught the cousin...

thanks t2b.. i pm'd u..

stone...those are some really scary stories girl.. i don't blame ur hubby for wanting to move to something TOTALLY opposite.. my mom used to be the SAME way.. when we looked for my old house, she would get mad if we looked at areas predominatly black, said it was gonna be ghetto and ray tay tay..

but becuz dallas has sooooo many minorities.. u can find some VERY nice areas that are not just ALL white.. i like to be around all kinds of ppl, and i DEFINATELY don't want to be the only person that looks like me around..

I am like you Quana I am forever missplacing my keys, work badge, phone you name it. I even try to put them in the same place everyday but it doesn't matter. One time I was tearing the place up looking for my keys and was almost in a panic and then I realized my shirt had the pass through pocket around the stomach and they were in there. I just pretended I had found them some where in the house so I wouldn't look like an idiot because they were in my pocket all along! Shhhh it is still a secret!

I can attest to that......:whistle:
